Unlike last year's draft, this one had a lot of ups and downs.

Fav:
Osa - Solid all around dude, much better than Hill, Senior Bowl standout.
Mukuamu - Another solid dude, gets hands on the ball, versatile, great value late in draft.

Least fav:
Gholston - Actually really like the player, but feel it was a big reach in 3 and there were better players available. This round could've made an amazing draft, but instead we went for role players.
Wright - See above.

Ambivalent about:
Fehoko: worth a shot. Seems like high character. Whether he makes the team, not so sure.
Ball: enough has been said about him. As far as I'm concerned, this guy isn't on the team until he proves himself.

On Defense:
Parsons. I really think the way he will be used will maximize his talent as a pass rusher. He will be a dynamic playmaker for us.

On Offense:
Fehoko. This is easy because there’s not much to choose from. That said Fehoko was a pet cat of mine that stemmed from watching cutups of Stanford QB Mills. He reminds me a lot of Vincent Jackson. There’s some great tools to works with.

Least Favorite.
Nashon Wright. This is too easy. The kid physically challenged. There’s nobody in the league that looks like him because he’s rail thin and guys like him can’t take the pounding. Six bench presses. He’s a perfect 6th/7th round pick to try and stash and develop over time. Not in the 3rd round. I don’t think there’s a chance he’s even on the roster come September.

Gholston. Solid rotational guy with limited ceiling. This is not the kinda guy I’d be targeting at pick #84. You can like the player but not the value.

Favorite Golston Leading up to the draft I was trying to figure out how to upgrade our interior pass rush and he looks like just what the doctor ordered. He made the switch at the senior bowl and showed he could do it at a high level.

Least favorite I'm not sure at this point.

Favorite: Parsons...will anchor the defense for years to come and is very versatile. He’s the difference maker I always hoped Jaylon would be.

Least Favorite: Nathan Wright...dude has the frame and size Quinn likes but like everyone has said it wasn’t necessary to take him this early. There were other guys on the board at that time who could have helped immediately. You don’t take projects in the 3rd round! A simple case of the Cowboys smug management thinking they’re smarter than everyone else and trying to find a Diamond in the rough.

favorites:micah parsons,lb....kelvin joseph,cb...bryan cox,lb...osa,dt...chauncey golston,de...quinton bohanna dt.....these guys will help our defense to turn the corner to better days.
parsons alone legitimizes our defense.
great pick.

least:fehoko...josh ball..nebraska og....only because i'm not familiar with them at all.
they are complete unknowns to me.
its not because i think they can't play or anything like that.

It's hilarious that ppl say things like "wright was a bad pick with melifonwu on the board" because long term they are the exact same prospect.

Not really, one is built like a man the other like a teenage chess player....
I'm sorry I forgot that you're not allowed to lift weights after you get drafted.

I could also say one has great instincts for the ball and the other is just an athlete who happens to play corner.

Which one is the great athlete, because it's not Wright.

My favorite has to be Cox because of where he was taken. Really excellent value at 115. My second favorite is Joseph. If he keeps his head on straight he is going to be an excellent CB1. I also like the Ball pick which I thought was gutsy.

My least favorite is Wright. He might be a good player but I am pretty sure they could have waited to take him. In the moment, not knowing who else would be there later in the draft, I probably would have gone in a different direction. But I would have taken Jay Tufele over Osa Odighizuwa, and then maybe taken Barron Browning at 99.

I kind of agree. If we had taken Togiai there or Molden, I would have been perfectly happy with that. Instead, we took an end who is not considered to be much of a pass rusher.

Honestly, I can understand the Wright pick based on the potential to develop him into the type of corner Quinn favors, but Gholston just seemed like we tried to play it safe with a player who never will be more than a rotational DL. Third round, we should still be looking for guys who can become starters.

  • Cox at pick 115 was really nice. Hope it works out!
  • Wright at 99 seemed preposterous. Hope it works out!

Here's Wright's spidergraph. Superior athlete's will fill-out the circle with purple area rather than look like an anorexic octopus like Wright's.

*The numbers within the circles are percentiles

Wright was certainly somebody that Quinn wanted. Enough for the team to pick him in the 3rd round. He is a scheme specific player. We have a bad track record of reaching for players like this. On the other hand Quinn has had success with these kinds of players.
