We had the rare chance to get a game changer at 12. Absolutely amazing.

I was in favor of taking Parsons at #10 since a few days before the draft so I loved it when we took him at #12. Granted I was a bit torn between Parsons and Horn or Surtain because we needed the CB as well, but I think Parsons will be as you called it.....an instant "game changer". We were giving up WAY too many rushing yards last year. Parsons is a beast, and he's going to make a big difference in our run defense.
Yes we lost Surtain, but I think Kelvin Joseph will pick up the slack at CB.

BTW, when we doubled down at LB and picked up Jabril Cox, we may have just guaranteed that the Cowboys could have the most potent pair of LBrs in the NFL! :flagwave:

I think the combination of Parsons and Cox in the backfield is going to be intimidating. I'm guessing they're going to change a few minds.
A lot of guys around here were unhappy with LVE and Smith. With Parsons and Cox, it's going to be a whole new ballgame.
Man, I’m not quite sure how they’re going to be using Cox.

Parsons, I know that they’ll be playing him, as McCarthy put it, “on the ball and off the ball”… meaning sometimes they’re going to make him an edge rusher and send him after the QB, which excites the heck out of me because with 4.38 speed and a natural feel for pass rushing, I think he’s going to ruining a lot of QB’s days. He’ll be on top of the QB in the blink of an eye and the guy is a load when he gets there. At other times, he’ll be running free to the ball, which is easy to see from his game play that he gets there quickly.

I’m extremely excited about Micha and what he can do for the defense. Knowing how they’re going to be using him, I think he’s the best guy they could have drafted for this defense. He’s going to be making plays all over and his aggression and speed should stand out in Dallas just like it did at Penn State.

Cox is more than solid in coverage but he isn’t great against the run… a major reason that I wasn’t high on him in this draft. He was indeed value where Dallas was able to draft him though, so I’m glad they got him. A coverage LB is a needed commodity these days… and he is really good in space.

However, will he be just a nickel LB on passing downs? Will he simply compete at the Will LB spot? Is he going to be a hybrid like Neal and compete with him directly? Or is he just a pick to groom for the future?

I don’t know. It’ll be interesting to see their vision for Cox this season.

Micah Parsons could be the best thing to happen for the Dallas defense in a very long time. By his own words, he realizes the need to share his abilities and knowledge with the other LBs and hopes they'll to do the same for him. It's been a long time since anyone in the Dallas LB corps has had the level of ability that he does. It excites me to consider what he can do to improve this defense. Micah can do it all and then some.

This is me going on a limb, but from a talent perspective, if the Cowboys actually get a couple of solid guys to shore up the defense and o line in free agency, they could possibly win a superbowl run THIS year. I see our offense as stocked with talent and our defense finally getting the attention it deserves, especially with the addition of Parsons.

Honestly, I'm almost glad the two corners were taken ahead of us, because I think those positions were looked at as positions of bigger 'need', but Parsons was considered the more talented guy... so we were essentially forced into drafting the BPA on defense.

I like what Parsons brings to the table and this is a guy that has only played LB for two years. So if he is doing these kinds of things after barely playing the position, what is he going to do when he actually really learns the position?

I was on Team Trade Back for months. The first 15 just weren't lining up our way, IMO.

Would have much rather gotten the deal that Chicago gave up to the Giants.

Not a fan of taking Linebackers in the first two rounds in todays NFL, especially a RAW one in Parsons and proves once again that the Cowboys wasting premium picks on Smith and LVE were mistakes since Dallas is already replacing them.. Dallas got outsmarted and outplayed on draft day,

And with the help of Sean lee he can be even better. He said the second person to call him after drafted was Sean. Dak was first. Kid can do wonders. Sean can pass on all that knowledge to him.

To each his own.

But the Pro Bowl roster for linebackers in 2020 had one second rounder, one fourth rounder, one udfa, the others were all either first or second rounders, including 2nd, 5th and 21st overall picks. Top linebackers are usually early picks.

It's not a matter of "don't draft a linebacker in the first 2 rounds", if he's good and fills a need, taking one early can definitely be a good thing. Parson's isn't the perfect linebacker prospect, those guys are rare, but it's a good pick as far as I'm concerned...

I can see that. If not this year, then definitely next year. Michael Irvin seems to think so too. Sounds like he made a bet with SAS that if the Cowboys win the SB, SAS has to lead the parade AND clean Michael house in a maid outfit. I've GOT to see that!!!!!!!! XD

And how many here have complained about the Cowboys' short sightedness in not taking care of the future? Parsons is still a bit green, but don't we hope he becomes an All Pro and sticks around for a long time in that case?

If nothing else he's a good pick for future Cowboys' teams....

Realistically, we can say the same about the corner position. We used an even higher pick on Claiborne who didn't get a second contract and Byron Jones, who was talented but didn't get a second contract. For where we had to draft, I can't be mad at the Parsons pick at all. I'm sure if Horn or Surtain were there, they would have been taken. Nobody expected them to go back to back like that.
