I'm still worried about our DL. Both interior spots are questionable for me. Feel pretty good about DE, at least.

DT:

Gallimore, Hill, Urban, Woods, Odighizuwa (R), Bohanna (R), J. Hamilton, Palmore (PS)

DE:
Lawrence, Gregory, Watkins, Armstrong, Anae, Golston (R), Carter (PS), L. Hamilton (PS), Speaks (PS)

*Last year we kept 10 DL on the 53

It’s a great question. I think Gallimore is much better year 2. Urban is going to be a steady interior rotation guy. Having Gregory for a full season is huge. That guy makes everything better if he stays on the field. I wish they got Barmore and I hated the 3rd round picks but the DL should be better.

I think we currently rate as a B+ at DE and an F at DT.

I think our middle is horrid. Odighizuwa, Bohanna may help but we have to see it. Gallimore I have hopes for but Hill is trash. There is no saving him, IMO.

I think that Jaylon Smith can play the LEO. It's the SAM in run calls and more blitzing and man in pass calls.

Is that really all you got out of my post?
Leo is the pass rusher against an LT on passing downs. Jaylon cant do it, never did it, never will do it. Ok?

Would be nice to have 1 proven player on the interior then let the best man win the other spot. Though Hill and Gallimore flashed some potential so gives me hope along with the other depth guys well be ok there.

Its funny last year with Griffen, Poe, and McCoy signings I was feeling pretty good going into last season. That along with Aldon and a returning Gregory I thought the front 4 would be much better. Didn't know Poe had nothing left and how bad McCoys leg was. This year lot of unproven guys but a lot of competition. Maybe that's a good thing and they will surprise?

Have we done enough to try to improve the defense? Yep. Will have to wait to see. No one knows right now and will not know for several months to come.

How can that question ever be asked? Talent acquisition is a 365-day operation.

DE is in better shape (as far as at this moment) than DT, imho. A lot depends on Gregory though, can he play 17 games at the level he's shown flashes at?
DT is definitely in better shape than last year. Last year they went in with an injured McCoy and out of shape Poe. This group is definitely in better shape than last year barring any injuries. Is it enough? We will have to see.

With 3 down linemen that is one way you can have the LEO on the weakside. It doesn't have to be an under set though nor do you have to isolate the LEO on the LT.

OTOH, when Bradley and Quinn were using a 4-3 base in Seattle with Irvin and others they would often line the LEO up on the strongside.

It's up to
1) two players improving and being leaders - Lawrence & Gregory
2) Armstrong finally coming through\ Hill and Gallimore stepping up
3) free agents & rookie signings coming in and making impacts to help create a top 10 to 15 defeshe for the 2021 season.
Armstrong could be getting cut for Golston.

Hill May be out for Odigizuia.

If it’s 10 it’s DE:
DLaw
Gregory
Basham
Golston

DT:
Gallimore
Urban
Odigizuia (can also be the 5th DE ala Crawford)
Woods
Watkins
Boanna (I hope he’s active and not PS)

I see a lot of average players in that list.

Same. Last year, the secondary and the DL worried me, especially the safety and DT positions.

I look at this roster and see a lot of average players and unknowns. We needed one surefire starter at S and DT and I don't think we got one for either.

Last year our DL got pushed back, a lot. I don't see that happening this year and with better secondary play causing the QB to go to his second or third reads I could easily see our sack totals going up.

He is a lot more than just a pass rusher.

Yea, as they were saying yesterday Parsons brings variety. Last year (until Gallimore started to bed in) our pressure came solely from the Edge, Parsons gives us another weapon even if it's a decoy.

Our owner remembers only the triplets from our SB era, he probably forgot that Leon Lett was playing backup snaps initially, that's how good our DL used to be

Need a veteran, #3 Edge Rusher
