Fave Pick:
Kelvin Joseph -- Joseph to me was CB4. He has the 4th most "talent". I think I'd rather gamble on his "character" than Greg Newsome's health. Was a massive need and I think you got a guy who can really do the job here. Has to have his mind right about ball but the fact the team was arguable the most dialed in this off-season bodes well.
Sleeper Pick:
Going to blow minds here but I like the kid at 99. He is a long CB with good straight-line speed and will attack the ball. I think he has a very real chance to succeed as a zone CB which fits what Quinn normally does. Nahshon might have been rated R3 on a lot of boards imho had he had 2 full seasons on P5 play with regular off-seasons. Might have been R4 on most boards had he simply been coaches on some agility drills. Guys like Parsons spent a full year preparing for the Pro Day testing.
Scary Pick:
Micah Parsons. I don't mean this is a bad pick or poor value but it sounds like we are going to make him the face of the defense as this 3-3-5 Rover/Bandit type and that's a lot of pressure. If it fails entire defense may need an overhaul in 12 months again. Could be DWare or he could be miscast totally in this role.
Pick you liked least.
OT ball. Look, I don't need Choir Boys. But mannn that is a bad look when a guy has double digit incidents of domestic disturbance calls. Lots of raw talent but this is 2021 and I wouldn't have done this in round 7.
Great post and discussion:
Best pick:
.
CB Kelvin Joseph
yeh even over LB Parson/Cox - but the More i see and read of
Joseph's profile and game tape, the more i like him as a prospect- and believe it or not when i say his potential could even be higher and greater than Diggs.
He has the 4.34 recovery speed that Diggs doesn't , he should be able to handle the speed WRs that Diggs struggled with,
and he has similiar ball hawk INT skills that Diggs has.
Plus he not only has game experience vs top WR competiton such as Bama WR Dontae Smith- but he was in Smith's hip pocket downfield and
ended INT'ing the deep ball from Mac Jones to Dontae.
He doesn't have the extended game experience that Surtain, Horn, Stokes and Campbell have, but don't be surprised that he ends up being a better player
than most of them or all of them.
Scary Pick:
OT John Ball,; Several domestic violence cases already - and much is made about his responsive comment - What's to be excited is his size, athleticism ,
ease of movement, physical tools and demeanor tone. He'll need to gain NFL play strength and better hand usage, but he's a natural knee bender and great
foundation to work with. But ... with his trending case- have a Plan B option with him handy
Sleeper Pick:
i had to choose between Israel and WR Simi Fehoko- who i think is gonna be a special teams dynamo, but he may also end up beaten out Cedrick Wilson
as the 4th WR.; but with
Israel mukuamu Safety - he got my attention with 3 INTs in a single college game. Was a CB in college, but Cowboys will do a Damontae Kazee mimic with converting a college CB into an NFL level free safety. And he's bigger than Kazee too.
think of it Israel, Kazee, Wilson, Diggs, Wright, Lewis, Cox, etc. ... Cowboys are really trying to assemble as much ball hawk
INT skills in the deep secondary patrol as possible,
Pick i did not like: easy CB
Lashon Wright, .. Not so much as a pure player, but more so taking a project so very early in the 3rd round.
who is he gonna beat out for playing time vs Anthony Brown, Lewis ? i still vastly believe this is more a coach's call (and reach) than a McClay call.
Are we right back to the Taco pick type operating again ?
