The need for a 3 Pass Rusher

I think the front office has done a good job of addressing all the needs, except maybe Safety and a #3 Edge Rusher.

As for safety, think they do have quality options available such as Kazee, Wilson and maybe even Lewis, but the third edge rusher is currently Basham, Anae, both unproven players.

Will we see another late pass rusher add like Griffen last season? Justin Houston is still out there, along with Melvin Ingram, could we land one at a discounted price?

I think if the inside pass rush gets up to NFL standards then the Edge rushers will be fine. I really liked Basham coming out and he fits Dan Quinn's Leo position to a "T" in my opinion.

I think both Osa Odighizuwa and Chauncey Golston will provide quick inside pressure. Golston is listed as a DE but, his pass rush lined up inside is what I believe got him picked in the 3rd round.

Osa reminds me of Grady Jarret of the Falcons and Chauncey reminds me of Michael Bennett.

Chauney is no where near a Michael Bennett, he is more like Tyrone Crawford. Solid, role-player type. Neither of the thrid rd lineman are pass rushers.

Those two starters are not exactly on solid footing here.

Check Lawrence's upcoming cap figures. That will need to be dealt with....and when was the last time Jerry asked someone for a pay cut? Never. More likely 90 is cut. Maybe a restructure but how long can they pay him as a sack guy when he isnt??

Which leads to the next problem....the actual sack guy....

If Gregory has any type of decent season, teams will be lining up to get him. He will need to be paid almost either way.

This is why I wanted a top pick spent on the position, but apparently we still operate year to year plugging gaps. Never ahead of it.
I think they are going to add another pass rusher as they have all unproven players behind the starters. Yes, more of a 1yr fix. You cannot address everything in 1 draft.

I think the Cowboys believe they drafted a DE (Golston) and S (Mukuamu), they just aren't names fans want to hear.

I don't expect any of the free agents no one else has seen fit to sign being brought to Dallas soon. Not sure why people keep expecting a leopard to change his spots.
History suggests they always add pass rush, just look at the last 2 off-seasons, Quinn/Griffen.

The pass rush is a collective effort from the DL. Of course, Players like Lawrence and Gregory will be judged and/or get the glory based on their sack totals. Although, I’d rather see a complete DL that spreads out the sack accumulation, like Gallimore, Hill, Urban, and Odigizuwa adding 3-5sacks themselves. And rotational DEs doing the same. If this happens, it will be difficult for teams to double team any one particular player.

Securing the middle and stopping the run is where it all starts. Making teams one dimensional by passing the ball, gives our defense a better chance for more sacks and turnovers. I believe Dallas has done a great job, under the current cap restraints, to rectify the run defense with additions like Urban, Bohanna, Odigizuwa, Basham, Golston, and Parsons. Throw in returning players like Gallimore and Hill, our run defense will be much improved.

That said, Lawrence and Gregory should have great years this season bc teams can’t focus solely on them. This should also allow players like Armstrong, Anae, and Golston to improve. Again, this is a collective effort that I feel confident will work.

Side note: I also feel like Terell Basham will be a player and surprise some folks. Not saying double digits sacks or anything, but 6-8sacks wouldn’t surprise me one bit. Basham excelled in 4-3 scheme in college, which the Jets 3-4 scheme did him no favors. He’s got a quick first step and some pass rush moves that make him intriguing. If Lawrence takes him under his wing.. he will be your answer at DE3.
I think your pressure players that no one sees at DE also include Parson and Jaylon. I think you will see both rush the passer from the end.

There isn't one on this list, that scares any offense, outside the 2 starters.
There's not a #3 edge rusher in the league who does. It's why they are #3....Basham is about as good as any other rotational edge in the league.

This team is built to blitz and manufacture passrush that way though.

No - rushing the passer is Odighizuwa's greatest strength. He was arguably the best passrushing DT in the class. He'll be a penetrating 3T and is super athletic for a DT, even if he is a little bit light.

Maybe we could just wait and watch them play before we judge them.
Bennett was an UDFA .

Especially when you're swinging for a grand slam with no runners on in the 3rd round.

Maybe this was half addressed with the Iowa guy, let's see.

I do agree on the vet for now, but I would have preferred a mid rounder thrown at this....and it can't be said that the pick couldn't be spared.

Parsons is going to see plenty of time on the line of scrimmage. Ex DE.. Fast and Mean.

We need the "3rd" pass rusher to be from the inside.

D-Law and Gregory is a good duo. Most teams would be fortunate to have two guys like them, let alone someone of D-Laws caliber.
Our depth behind them could be better, but that's unrealistic/relying on draft picks/tbd guys.

IMO to make this team to the next level we need one of Gallimore, Osa Oalphabet or Hill to become a more consistent threat inside.
Doubt any of them could be elite, but just one becoming a good tackle would be huge.

This draft didn't have great edge rushers to begin with, Ojulari was a medical red flagged player and Phillips has those concussion concerns. Think the two 3rd rounders are more run players, at least at this juncture. They are push the pocket types, not bend the corner edges rushers. You add a veteran like Justin Houston if at his age, still can get after the QB.

He certainly has upside as a interior rusher, but when I watched him, he was more of an undersized tackle, who was good at taking on double teams and locating the football. He can play some 5T, but I think he will be more of an inside player.

When you have lock down corners like Dallas has, DE rush isn't as important....oh wait....uh, I think...hmm...yup, I don't know

Actually Quinn doesn't like to use the blitz, but might have to. Last year, we had Tank, Griffen, Aldon, Gregory at the position, think we are worse in that area now.

At DE, Cowboys have:

Bradlee Anae
Dorance Armstrong
Tarell Basham
Ron'Dell Carter
Chauncey Golston
Randy Gregory
Ladarius Hamilton
DeMarcus Lawrence
Breeland Speaks
Brent Urban
Carlos Watkins

Looks like they have plenty of players to choose from to make the team at DE/Edge.
Did I miss something? We have Breeland Speaks?
