Exactly! And with us going to a 3-4, there's less room for Woods. Especially with how many dlinemen we have. Players like DLaw and Gregory are going to have to play OLB (which I think fits their skillsets better). Even take them out of the DL equation, and we're still loaded. So, Woods had to go. Also makes sense as to why we didn't bring Lee back. This is going to be more of a speed 3-4 base with a lot of nickel being played as well.
DLaw sucked standing up.

Hmm, in that case, perhaps he stays at DE, which would allow Parsons to play the outside Lb spot on his side. We will see how that plays out. I think the difference was that he was trying to standup in a 4-3. This is a 3-4, so he might have better luck. But, if he prefers the stance, then DE and Parsons next to him would fit well. Or have Basham standup.

Wright makes sense to me because I think he is going to play both CB and safety. From what I understand, this is going to be a speed 3-4 base with a lot of nickel. Israel and Wright will probably rotate a lot between CB and S. Don't be surprised if we see DBs like Jourdan Lewis follow Woods out the door. Quinn, like Richard, prefers the taller DBs. I think Wright is going to replace Lewis.

Lewis just signed a 3-year deal?

I get that, but I don't see how he fits this defence, unless he moves to safety. Quinn prefers the taller DBs. Jourdan Lewis is not that. The best case for him might be at S. Given his speed and how he tracks the ball, I frankly think S is a better spot for Lewis.

Armstrong is a 4th round pick by a completely different coaching staff. Anae was rated higher than where he was drafted and not a single person said Anae is great or anything.

Don't be surprise when Armstrong doesn't make the team. I had the same debate a couple days ago when I said Woods wouldn't make the team
I don't know which one will or won't get cut, and won't be surprised either way.

But the idea that Anae is any more likely to be kept than Armstrong has no merit. He has less pedigree, the same lack of connection to the defensive staff, and does not match the athletic profile they've preferred.

Anything else is just "I like his highlight film from college," which doesn't at all matter.

Anae is a draft pick from last year, I doubt he gets cut.

Golston is better than Armstrong right now and he was brought in from different coaches. McCarthy or Quinn has 0 ties to Armstrong

I forgot about Anae! Though, in a 3-4, he might also be better as an OLB.

So by that oversimplified standard they should all go.

Simplified? There are going to be changes on defense that should be a given and expected or was Dallas keep every player on defense and hope for different results? You named guys like Digg and Gallimore 2 rookies who showed promise with their play. I have nothing personal against Woods but I also know there will likely be more changes on a unit that was the worst in franchise history and you bet I hope to see some changes to get this turned around.

Hamilton was one of those JAGs that were total non-factor vs run... I don't even see him even making the 53 roster.
Gallimore is headed to Whataburger, but Hamilton becomes an option? Interesting.

I think he meant for Gallimore to bulk up. I could see that becoming a possibility. He'll need to bulk up a bit more.
