I know he's a rookie. But this is the war daddy on defense.

He's gonna smack some guys around on game day.

Man I’m really happy with Parsons, and now that I know how the team is going to use him, I wouldn’t rather have any other defensive player from this draft… but maaaaaaan I liked Horn.

I really like Joseph a lot too but Horn is the best corner in the draft I think.

When did Horn say he needed Dallas to move up to get him? I didn't see that

What's your understanding on how Dallas will use Parsons? I haven't heard much on that either

I honestly didn't hear them speak on the specifics but I do remember Parsons saying he and Quinn talked about how they planned on using him and he seemed optimistic.

Yeah, Horn says it in the video. Early in it before Micha is picked.

Horn says “Dallas needs to come get me.” [trade up for him]

Micha, who wants to go to Dallas says to Horn, “Man, you can’t even cover me.”

As far as the use of Micha, Quinn said something along the lines of Micha getting to rush the passer from the edge, mentioning LEO and SAM, as well as playing some off the ball LB as well. I can’t remember the exact quote but it is along those lines.

Also, McCarthy said that after the first round on Thursday, him and Quinn came in on Friday morning and sat down discussing how they would use Parsons. He specifically said that he would be used as an “on the ball” and as an “off the ball” player. Meaning he would play some as a potential edge rusher as well as a normal LB position.

Both of those were music to my ears because that is exactly how I think Parsons should be used. One of the things he does best is rush the QB (he was a DE before moving to LB). With his crazy athleticism, I think he will be on QB’s before they have time to set… the damn guy is fast as a cornerback.

I said in February as the pre draft talk was just getting started that I loved Parsons ability and aggression but if they were just going to play him as an off the ball LB, I’d rather just take Surtain… but if they had a plan to use him some as a regular LB and some off the edge as a rusher, Micha would be my favorite draft pick.

Frankly, I was afraid they’d just use him normally. So, hearing that from the coaches made my week because he’s going to be a real weapon.

Now, I just can’t wait for camp.

Oh wow. I totally missed that video in this thread.. I wonder when that was taken?

Thanks for clarifying the Parsons bit. I hadn't heard anything on how they planned on using him

In the video that I’m linking here, you can go to the 21:45 mark to hear what coach McCarthy says about Parsons. He mentions getting there Friday morning and talking about how they’re going to use Micha. He specifically says that it is the coach’s job to figure out different ways to use an impact player like this. It is very good news that they know they have to put him in position to make an impact. Garrett and Marinelli would just stick him at off the ball LB and rarely send him after the QB. These guys won’t do that. They’ll use him all over.

Around the 23:00 mark, McCarthy talks about Micha being a dynamic pressure player that creates targeting issues for the offense. He said when the opposing offense is studying our defense, their protection adjustment meeting is going to be about “Where is number 11?”. In other words, they’ll start each play by needing to figure out where Parsons is.

That tells you that he’s going to be a focal point for opponents in trying to protect their QB… which also tells you that Dallas plans on sending him after the QB a healthy portion of the time. Finally it tells you that Quinn and McCarthy plan on playing him all over the formation.

I’m sure that he will also play some off the ball LB and drop in coverage at times. He isn’t going to be strictly an EDGE rusher. However, he is going to be sent after the QB a lot more than we were used to with Marinelli (and others).

I expect to see him some at the LEO position in passing situations. I also expect to see him playing an on ball SAM, meaning that he will be rushing the QB from the edge opposite Gregory, who will be at the LEO. Quinn would be sending 5 guys usually, when Parsons is at SAM. Parsons and Gregory should put significant pressure on the offense to protect well and get the ball out fast.

So yeah, once I started hearing this kind of stuff, I immediately got excited because the defense is actually using him in the way I wanted them to. It makes Micha the best first round pick that we could have chosen.
