The replacement draft

This Cowboys draft doesn't doesn't seem to be as much about adding to a talented roster, but rather replacing and covering for past mistakes. The core of this defense should be in the past 5 drafts, but it's just not. Much of those drafts are gone or about to be gone.
  • Parsons is here to un-do the Vander Esch pick. There's a reason many teams didn't even put LVE on their draft board, and we now understand why.
  • Cox is here to ultimately get Jaylon out of here, along with Neal.
  • Joseph is to eliminate the Awuzie miss and the Byron Jones mistake.
  • Odighizuwa is here to erase Trystan Hill, along with Urban.
  • Golston is here to fix the Taco Charlton debacle.
  • Bohanna is here because this team has paid dearly for avoiding true 1-technique tackles for years.
It's as if Dan Quinn walked in and said, "uh, no, we're not using these guys. Let's get new ones."

Let's hope his eye for what he wants for his defense is sharp. Worst case is that it can't possibly be worse than that high school defense we watched last year. I hope they're still looking hard at free agency, too.

We need picks to start sticking better so we can get in the talent acquisition mode, rather than the do-over mode we're stuck in.

And we might consider resigning some of the ones for example we let go last year who weren’t misses in draft.

For the value of their selection at the time, DLaw & Byron Jones -- the only defensive selections (including defensive undrafted free agents, and defensive free agent signings) in the last 10 years (since 2011), that could be somewhat justified.
Yet, DLaw has "cashed-out" since his 2nd contract (and will continue to decline), and Jones left.

That is terrible roster management, and p*** poor drafting.
Horrific.

Here, yes always it seems. For all teams? Sometimes.

First and second round defensive picks are supposed to stick for a couple contracts.
Yea, LVE and Jaylon were risk that didn’t work out like they could have . Much like Lee and Gregory.

Imagine if all 4 of those hit. And we had resigned Jones and maybe Collins.

Our defense is what it could have been.

And three of our picks this year are problem talents as well with off field issues.

We took too many risk and too many misses in 1st and 2nd rounds this era on defense. And why it has suked and most likely prevented this franchise from more success with an offense good enough to contend .

Every draft is a replacement draft.
And it’s not that previous picks were all busts but you can’t give everyone a second contract
In some cases you hope you get an upgrade, others it just prevents having to pay a guy when you may only be getting an equal player but for less money

2017 was a mess.

The argument can be made that the entire 2018 class can't or shouldn't be retained.

2019 doesn't look great either.

Last year has very serious potential, but it was really only one in a while, and mostly fueled by the circumstance of Lamb falling.

Check out the 2009 draft class, now that's horrible. Quantity over Quality! Lol

Jerry relates to these kinds of people. One in 10 works out, and Jerry only remembers the one. He's still living the Randy Moss mistake.

No they are not. Ask the Ravens and Patriots....if you hit on guys you can't expect to keep all of them that's why you always draft these guys.

Its a smart way to build your team that way you aren't forced to give 100 million to a player because of need.

Yea but I think it’s more than that.

Since he’s not a good talent evaluator as a part time GM who admittedly doesn’t watch much film he’s sees these talents who are sliding in draft as an opportunity to bring talent in he’d otherwise not have had access too.

And willing to take these risk without having to be accountable for their failures or lack of success. He actually believes he provides us these tactics to acquire talent most GM’s wouldn’t risk.
