The only question to be asked is, not why are they getting cut - but are they better than what you currently have on your roster.
Naw the question to be asked is why is he getting cut. If he's not good enough to start for the Dolphins why are we aiming to sign him? Its not like he was a cap casualty or anything.

If you think he has ability and would play on a cheap one year so me something deal than sure. Giving this man guaranteed money is the equivalent of using a Picasso as toilet paper.

Maybe because he signed a 4-year $27M contract in 2018 and isn’t worth the money. Like Elliott, Jaylon Smith, and Lawrence to mention a few.
After the transaction, Miami would create $5.6 million in cap space and have roughly $1.5 million in dead money.

He wasn't cut because of 5.6 million. He was cut because they haver better or just as good already on the roster.

They also brought in Malik Hooker for a workout if I'm not mistaken so who knows if that has something to do with it.

no you have to ask why a starting captain is being CUT instead of traded..the guys not worth 7 at least?? you must ask that question..

he s most likely Jeff Heath..like he said above we need to first use the talent acquired in the offseason and see how they respond..Kazee, neal, wilson, and kearse plus some dbs listed at CB a few from the draft will be looked at for possible FS converson..at this point wed have to make roster spot for him and hes have to be better then anyone on the roster..if hes not worth a 7 id sy hes not..

ive never heard of this guy, period..hes being cut suddenly and without seeking a trade, somethings up..
Follow the money - larger cap hit coming this year and they just drafted Holland. There is gonna be more cuts coming from various teams still given the cap figures they have this year.
2020 27 $5,475,000
2021 28 $6,375,000
2022 29 $6,975,000

Cap savings over $12,000,000 next two years - with very small cap hit.

again why no trade if this guy was worth his salt as starter you dont outright cut him..he was obviously over paid and under performing..no one would touch it..not big deal nothing to see here

maybe quinn and Mm are checking it out as we speak..lets let them make a decision..

Has all the markings of a cap casualty to me. If he gets hurt in an OTA or in the team gym, the team is on the hook for his salary. The Dolphins probably think they have cheaper alternatives almost as good, as good, or better. Why take a risk with a player likely to get cut getting injured in practice.

Byron Jones is very expensive. I am guessing their other CB is also very expensive. Only so many dollars to be spread around.

I don't see why anyone would want to take on that salary for the next two years via a trade. Teams are tight against the cap right now

Id lie to know why a starting team captain is being outright released vs a trade of some kind..something's missing..

betting hes in some sort of trouble with the league and facing suspension or somsthing..
Looks like a straight financial move. Miami is only $8.1M under the cap, and cutting McCain saves them another $5.6M with only $1.5M in dead money.

Think the South Carolina CB we took should be getting safety reps day one of camp
He could be pretty good at safety and has some experience

They have the two highest paid corners in the league.

But if they are worried about him getting hurt in OTA's or a team gym than that tells you all you need to know about him. He's not very good.

Miami fans say nothing special, decent player, good person. Some team will sign him for a lot less. Vet with experience.

Probably about the same as what we have at safety right now.

Even if it's not this guy - and hopefully a hard pass - we HAVE to do something !
They spat the dummy yet again in the draft, and with Kazee coming off tearing his Achilles last year - there is no way he will be 100% this year. And he's small to boot.
FS is still the weakest link, and in need of something should Kazee not be ready or compromised.
Not even a late round safety picked up, so the need is real .....
