Everyone thinks we are moving to the 3-4, which is not true. Against the run it will look like a 3-4, but they will be playing a traditional 4-3 most of the time in the nickel

your are not the 1st person to say this, that we will not be moving to 3-4... Do you work for the cowboys. because no offense im going to side with & listen to the people that are developing the game plans and the scheme over you, unless you work for the team of course. Do you?

Great interview with Micah on the Ross Tucker podcast. Confirms Dan Quinn will be playing a base 3-4 and that he will start off at the Mike and Will position where they will look to use blitzes and stunts.

I'm curious what it will look like from a personnel standpoint.

I assume the base would be something like (based on the players we currently have on the roster; some will be cut)

DE Urban/Hill/Golston
NT Bohanna/Gallimore/Hamilton
DE Watkins/Odighizuwa

OLB Parsons/Gregory/Basham/Carter
ILB Vander Esch
ILB Smith
OLB Lawrence/Armstrong/Anae

The nickel/dime:

DE Gregory/Basham/Carter/Anae
DT Gallimore/Odighizuwa
DT Hill/Golston/Watkins
DE Lawrence/Armstrong

LB Parsons/Cox
LB Neal/Cox

They are playing a 3-4 base with some 4-3 under looks. --3 down linemen 2 stand up edges to carry space across the front.
It is going to be interesting to see what he does differently from Nolan and how he employs all the possible sub packages to match up with the different offenses they face.

They can play the 46 for all I care: Just stop the other teams from scoring!

There's no such thing as a 4-3 nickel. They will have a 4 man line on pass downs.

When I look at that first selection, you want immediate impact and that means influence on other starters, making them better.
While many will never agree, having Surtain and Horn off the board wasnt the worst thing that could have happened, Parsons might prove to be a blessing that fell right, right into Jerrys lap and there was no getting around it, esp when the additional 3rd,, whats not to love about this good fortune.
Bet 11 comes in and sizes up the locker room pretty fast, bet Jaylon and LVE take notice quickly with an occasional double take thrown in for extra measure.
If Parsons inaugural rookie debut pushes Jaylon and LVE into elevated and better play/awareness, than thats what I call an impactful 1st pick in this draft.

Maybe but sounds like DQ has told Parsons it is a 3-4
Whatever may be the arrangement, please stop the run and make the other teams punt once in a while at least , please !!!!

isn’t this just a dime package? Or Parsons playing DE/OLB.

You better cover up the one healthy, the other one legged, and no neck LBs with 4 DL. Any 3/4 D use would be a disastrous misuse of personnel like 2020.

This explains the signings of Brent Urban and Carlos Watkins, who can be 3-4 ends that can play tackle in the four man nickel line. Tarell Basham played OLB in the Jets' 3-4 last year; and will back up D-Law and Randy Gregory. Osa Odighizuwa looks like an ideal 3-4 end; and of course with Bohanna splitting reps on the nose you have an imposing run stuffer.

I just wonder where Keanu Neal fits. My guess is he'll be a linebacker in the nickel (which is what most teams play 60-70 percent of the time as I've seen quoted) and he will be more of a traditional safety in the base defense.

Well no wonder we went LB twice in this draft. So much for the dumbies thinking LVE and Jaylon are getting cut or on the way out...
