Does anyone know if we ever got an offer from the Bears?

to trade down to 20?
Reportedly we did but it wasn’t nearly as good as what they offered the Giants

Once we passed on that option and chose, instead, to trade with the Eagles, the Bears reportedly got nervous that someone else would jump up for Fields so they went a little nuts and overpaid to get their guy

that’s what I read anyway. None of it is confirmed

I feel like we had to of. If they moved up to 11 why wouldn't they at least inquire at 10 knowing also that Dallas is always a wild card. Don't you think they'd be worried about Dallas trading down with say NE and them losing there guy?
I mean, I don't think teams wait until the draft starts to ever talk to each other. They probably felt us (and everyone in our range) out previously to get a sense of whether we were a good fit for a trade. The teams in that range all probably got put on notice that the Bears were looking to pay to move up. I think we talked to them days or weeks prior, knew roughly what the deal was, and we decided we just weren't a good fit for a trade because we were so locked in on getting a top defensive guy, that it would've taken a much crazier offer than the Giants accepted in order to talk us into moving down to 20 when there was still a guy we viewed as a top defensive prospect on the board.

Side note: I'd be curious if we talked to the Giants at all to see if they would've beaten the Eagles' trade-up offer just to secure that WR for themselves though.

Imagine a scenario where the Giants give us an even higher 3rd to beat Philly's offer and keep the Eagles from securing the guy they loved. Now, we're picking 11, and we're still fielding calls from anyone worried the Eagles will pivot away from WR to take the guy they wanted. We could've probably gotten an extra 3rd from the Chargers (worried the Eagles pivot and take the last elite lineman left) and still gotten Parsons. If the Eagles thwart us by picking Parsons at 12 in that scenario, we settle for trading with the Bears and getting that future 1st rounder (while, let's be honest, probably doing ourselves a favor by not spending too-high, unnecessary resources on a 43 LB type of guy, which is not that hard a position to fill anyway -- win-win).

I posted in another thread. That the NYG defense improved and played well last year. And that the WFT defense, as many think it is great. Well they are good. But I seen games where they were scored upon easily. They only looked great against our make shift OL and back up QB's. I watched as much as I could of the NFCE opponents, with NFL ST. So it was not like I am basing it on just games against us.
I agree, I am more concerned with the NY defense over WFT. But who knows, this is a new year.

I think the WFT did a nice job of improving their secondary which I thought was their biggest defensive weakness.

Yeah they sucked last year but in Garret's defense I don't know what he could've done with such piss poor talent. And its not really that I fear the Giants or Garrett....its just...I don't know I have a bad feeling that what they get out of Garrett is the opposite of what we got. Like Wade going to get a Super Bowl with the Bronco's....

If their offensive line holds up, they have a pretty good team going into 2021. They have a solid DL and defense overall. Barkley is back. Shepard, Golladay and the rookie at WR. They're probably going to be a lot better than last year. Provided Jones doesn't crap the bed.

Thought it was reported that the Bears made an offer but it was not as good as the offer they gave the Giants. Bears probably thought they would try a low ball offer to the first team to see if they would bite. When that didn't happen they gave the Giants a more serious proposal.

Imo the Bears did not offer us. They knew the Eagles jumped to grab a WR, Dallas was focused on D, the real concern was whether or not the Patriots would trade up or stay put. They elected to get their guy and made the trade with the Giants

That may be how you feel but as of right now every team thinks they are a contender at this point in the season. There’s no process like Jason Garrett use to spoon feed you. You can go from bad to good if you make the correct moves in your offseason.
You can, when you have competent ownership.

I am not sure why people are so cocky with this point of view. You are not improving the team by replacing one starter with another starter. Parsons was drafted to replace a starter, not to add to the team.

Based on everything that's been reported he was not drafted to replace anyone. He's expect to be a addition to this team.

And I'm not cocky to this point of view. I'm just not naive. No matter how bad we think Jerry is....he could luck into a championship just like he did 3 times in the 90's. He could.

Browns are incompetent....they made the playoffs last year. It can all change in a offseason.

NO one here thinks the Cowboys lack the personnel to win in this league. So if we don't think they lack personnel why should anyone think they will suck next year? We all loved McCarthy before last season...that should still be the case.

I don't think it matters because I don't think they would have taken that deal to move down to 20.

I believe they came in with 3 targets in the 1st round, once 2 were gone they were not letting the last one go.

I do think I may have been wrong about one thing, I thought it was between the two CB's at 10 but I think it was about Parsons all along. To the public, that SEA D was all about the Legion of Boom but to Quinn and Carroll, I think it was all about Bobby Wagner. I wonder if Quinn thinks Parson could be his Bobby Wagner?

Wagner didn't play against the Cowboys when they played there last and I think if he had, the Cowboys do not win that game. That D was entirely different with him out of the game, Wagner was the fulcrum point of that D.

In hindsight it would have been a mistake. Who would Dallas have picked? Barmore, Moehrig? I was all for it, I just didn't foresee both of those players dropping as far as they did. I thought they'd go sooner than their projection.

As it turns out, Dallas could have traded up for either of those two relatively cheap. I don't think they wanted either one.

Caleb Farley. Then in the 2nd round they could have used one of their 4th round picks to move up for Moehrig.

Ironically the Cowboys would have drafted Booby Wagner in the 2nd round with the pick they used to trade up for Mo Claiborne.

Not only that but we are trying to win now. I don’t care about next years draft capital that’s Stephen Jones’s obsession. I’m not trading down to 20 in a top heavy draft. It’s silly.

I think it’s funny some people hate the draft but wanted them to take that trade.

Correct! The goal of a draft is to get impact players. And, for the most part, those players are going to come near the top of the draft.

Why would we drop all the way to #20 and move out of position to draft an impact player? Yes, we might acquire a #1 round pick next year, but we don't know where that pick will be either. And we don't know what our needs will be related to draft for next year. We needed defense in the worst way - corner, linebacker, defensive end, safety, etc.

And Parson was considered one of the best, if not the best, in this draft.

If he plays like Derrick Thomas, we won't even care about passing up a #1 next year - assuming we received the Bears offer.

Go get your player and worry about next year's draft next year.

Get over it. There hasn't been a single report from anyone that the Cowboys turned down this imaginary trade you've obsessed over for a week now.
Good one. Simple question stumps the simple minded. Now go away!
