When MM staff was brought in everyone said ehh OK guess Nolan was best he could do.

Quinn was an architect of legit defenses on both pro and collegiate levels.
If he can make this works remains to be seen but his reputation around the league is farrrr higher than that of Mike Nolan.

Yes, they had limited options at the point they hired Nolan. There were rumors that they wanted somebody else but that person went elsewhere.

New Head Coaches often don't get all of the assistants that would be their #1 choice.

Teams must wait on hiring the assistants until they've hired the HC which makes it difficult to get the preferred assistants at that point in time.

The Cowboys said after they hired Kiffin/Marinelli that they wanted to play a defense similar to Seattle.
- Quinn had been the Seattle DC at that point and took the Head Coaching position the same year the Cowboys hired Kiffin/Marinelli.

Back when the Cowboys hired Wade Phillips, it was done in order to get him as the D-Coordinator.
- They have had difficulty hiring D-Coordinators unless they hired them as Head Coach.

I'm truly ecstatic to hear this!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A legit DC w/ some talent could truly take this team to the next level!!!

Bunchy...maybe the dumbest character on a show ever.

When I see posts by certain people here at CZ, I envision them being the Bunchy character...

Bunchy once received a million dollar insurance settlement in cash. He decided to deposit it in the bank but while carrying a million dollars in cash with him, decided to stop at the sub shop for a sandwich at which point the shop was robbed at gun point...

Quinn got nearly the entire draft devoted to defense including the first round pick. FA he got what he wanted.

You can tell there is more of a commitment to Quinn.

I get where you're coming from, but I don't really agree.

D-line:
2020 Contracts: McCoy 6m, Poe 5m, Griffen 6m, A.Smith 1.25m, Crawford 11m Total - 27.25m
Draft: 3rd - Gallimore, 5th - Anae
2021 Contracts: Urban - 1.75m, Watkins 1.75m, Basham 2.75m Total - 6.25m
Draft: Odiguzuwa, Golston, Bohanna

Linbacker
2020 Contracts: Sean Lee 4.5m, Thomas 1.1m, March 750k Total - 6.25m
Draft: None
2021 Contracts: Neale: 4m Total - 4m
Draft Pick 12 - Parsons, 4th - Cox

Secondary:
2020 Contracts: Clinton Dix 4m, Worley 3m Total 7m
Draft:2nd - Diggs, 4th - Robinson
2020: Contracts: Kazee 1.5m, Kearse 1.3m Total 2.8m
Draft: 2nd - Joseph, 3rd - Wright, 6th Mukuamu

Overall: Nolan got an extra 28m or so spend in terms of player contracts while Quinn got pick 12 and a few extra mid round picks. If anything I'd say Nolan got more support it's just the best player in the first round was so obviously an offensive player (Lamb) that we couldn't go defense and help him out any more.

I think you’re fixating too much on price tags.

Maybe, but don't tell me Nolan wasn't supported by the Front Office because he got a small fortune, and a decent number of draft picks to rebuild this defense. And the price tag matters, I like our approach this off-season much better, which has focused on the draft, and bringing in younger/cheaper FA's guys that fit the scheme, but this is a better long-term strategy that might not see some hiccups in 2021. I'm sure Quinn would have liked the kind of money Nolan got, he could have brought in Shaq Griffin & Tomlinson rather than Wright and Bohanna, and then I'd have higher expectations as I did for Nolan....Quinn didn't get that kind of money to spend, so I think it's reasonable to acknowledge he's gonna have to get a lot out of rookies and asking so much of rookies comes with risk.

Overall, I don’t disagree with you much. But I would point out that the free agent money in 2020 was poorly spent on guys who couldn’t or wouldn’t play anymore.

It was completely wasted in 2020, and that's on the front office, but the DC surely signed off on all these guys too. When it was Marinelli we constantly saw "Marinelli type guys" selected, and you can see it on pretty much every one of the picks and free agency signings this off-season. Nolan was either a bad evaluator, or didn't have enough presence to influence the FO. I just get an Old Gil vibe from him (maybe it was the tabasco sauce in the eye) where he's gonna always struggle no matter what you give him. I like Quinn and Kellen Moore a lot as defensive/offense co-ordinators.
