I’ll take Urban Meyer and Trevor Lawrence with 40 players to beat any team with MM as HC and Dak as QB with 53 players

Myers in the long run will succeed. What he is doing reminds me of what we just went thru with hiring Big Mike and that means a change in look.

I agree with this on Meyers. Problem is, he never sticks around too long. I imagine he will lose interest in the NFL all together in 3-5 years

People are looking way too into the Tebow signing. You don't add a sixth TE to change the culture of the franchise.

I'm of the belief that Meyer is doing Tebow a favor because this signing likely means Tebow finally qualifies for an NFL pension.
Tebow was not on an NFL roster for 3 years (that is vestment in the NFL)?

Lol.
Hey man, I'm not looking to fight.
You want to be the sole Jerry Defender here, you get to it.
Plant that flag. Insult anyone and everyone along the way.

That's on you. Have fun!

Thanks for permission to have fun. I actually am having fun.
I hope you had some fun trying to stir a pot. You really added a lot, didn't you?
I don't insult people but do defend myself from insulting attacks. Including your little Drive-By insults.
Sorry, but I'm not a member of the 'Blame it all on Jerry' cult.

Fame must have enemies, as light must have gnats. Do not bother yourself about it; disdain. Keep your mind serene as you keep your life clear."

Churchill supposedly later used it as “You have enemies? Good. That means you’ve stood up for something, sometime in your life.” Not that this is really something :) but the point stands.

Your opinions are welcome. The insults are not.

You asked me a question. I answered it on culture. I gave you my true opinion.
Is something like this I received (not from you) opinion or insult? "I just loooooovvvvve your sense of humor. This is one of the funniest posts I have read in a long time."
Is something like this I received (not from you) opinion or insult? "Huh. Right on. I uh... huh.?"

Just asking.

I was part of the crowd who wanted Meyer badly. I thought he was just what we needed as a HC. But my opinion started to change when his leading candidate for OC was said to be Scott Linehan. Why saddle your rookie QB with a guy who couldn’t even last a season as a college assistant post Cowboys?

I did a bit of digging and saw that some media members felt that Meyer’s challenges would be his lack of a robust NFL network. His college network spread vastly but he never had the time/place to build an NFL one. This started to become apparent with his coaching hires. Many bland and average guys who’ve been tied to him.

After the Linehan flirtation, Meyer followed it up with trying to hire a controversial strength coach and having to reverse decision post-locker room/media reaction. Both not as confusing as the Tebow signing, who now media report the coaches in the building are spilt on. Good luck with that one Urban. If the coaches are iffy then the locker room is probably the same.

Imagine if we hired him and he’d done all this, we’d be extremely skeptical at best. We’ll see how the team does on the field but I’m not encouraged. Lawrence may be his saving grace. I think we really dodged a bullet, though I’m not super into Mike McCarthy.
I am going to stand by my statement that the Cowboys needed and Urban Renewal.

Jerry needed a HC that was going to be the HC in charge totally in charge.

However, Urban loyalty/bias lacks a moral compass. I posted about Zach Smith, Aaron Hernandez, and Chris Doyle. However, Jimmy Johnson had some questionable moral signings and players (Lett, Irvin, Roberts, etc.). However, Jimmy was only loyal to what you are going to do from me to win this week.

I would take that risk for another Super Bowl run at a Dynasty. Urban Meyer won at the power houses of Bowling Green and Utah St. So he like Jimmy Johnson has a keen eye for player personnel. He also can make players. Tim Tebow was a made player just like Alex Smith was made by Urban Meyers and his staff. The man recruited Tim Tebow and his successor Cam Newton to FL. So he not only knows talent, he can bring talent out of great, above average, average, and below average players (see all the Ohio St. QBs).

Remember, he has NFL ties through his assistant coaches and coordinators (Schiano, Vrabel, Sanford, Day, etc.) and worked on the spread offense with of all people, Scott Linehan.

So Cowboys did not dodge a bullet. You got a Sonny Corleone hit by bullets with the hiring of the Big Blue M&M who hired Mike Nolan as Defensive Coordinator....

Yeah I think it was the year before Romo started when he looked awesome in preseason. I'm not sure how soon he was ready. Also not sure how much Parcells was saddled with our QB debacle. It was Romo or trash and he didn't trust the youngster.
Yah and he signed and played the trash.

Disagreeing with someone’s opinion is not an attack. Whatever.
It is when you use your verbiage.

I say right on and uh: trying to figure your post out- you attack me with insult.

I respond I don't want to fight, you have your stance and you do you- you attack me with insult.

But please do go on.

Tell me how something I am.
I'm certain it will do somebody good to know.

The words used to do it are

I have my doubts about Urban Meyer, but I'm not hating the dude. Same with Tebow. I never saw him as an NFL Quarterback. Tight end would have been a far better position for him coming out of college.

I'm not religious myself but Tebow's bible versus and all that doesn't set me off like it does some people.

Meyer is light years ahead of Switzer. He's been innovative. Can he make the jump now? We'll see...it's an interesting narrative headed into '21 season.

I don't think we dodged a bullet, he is more like a radioactive suppository.

I really hate to hire college coaches. Usually if things don't work out right away, they tend to leave.

We have no idea how Meyer will pan out in the NFL. Let’s pump the brakes here.
The NFL is such a huge difference than college. Urban is great when he is in complete charge of everything. And he's great with the kids. An inspiration.

These are his strengths (a general big picture view). Does this translate to the NFL? Track record for great college coaches to the NFL? Not so great. Jimmy seems like an exception...and even that was an anomaly...not too good at the dolphins.

I wish him the best...especially his health if the pressure starts mounting.

Only thing that concerned me with Myers is his health issues that lead to him leaving Florida Gators and then with OSU but in terms of the job he did I think he is a very good HC. Just not sure of the staying power to remain.

One thing that will help Meyer is that in college he had pressure from not just the fans but a number of boosters as well. In the NFL he'll have just the owner, essentially, yes the fans are there but he's more insulated from them in the pros.

As long as the Khan is happy Meyer can proceed with his plans and not really have to worry about anybody else....

Nick Saban bombed in the NFL and went back to college.
I expect a similar move for Meyer.
I fully expect Meyer to end up coaching USC in the near future.
He just has to wait out them being desperate enough to make him the highest paid coach in college football.
Trevor may really do his thing eventually but it could be a tough early go and JAX would be very likely to get antsy and fire Meyer and hire a QB guru type coach to elevate TL if it doesn't go well early.
And given these guys were in the 30s in both offense and defense last year it'd be a tall order for anything to go well early.
Best case you're hoping for a Joe Burrow like season of improvement on offense while facing down losses.
JAX had a gazillion dollars in free agency but really didn't sign a transformational class imo.
