They could have extended his cheap deal and they chose not to.

The fifth year option on his contract wouldnt have been cheap. Because he made the probowl it accelerated into a crazy high price for a guy who might play half the season.

You never know -- medical science might invent a prosthetic neck.
Then, LVE might even be bulletproof the rest of his career!

Who says they are giving up on Lve? They just determined his option was too expensive and will be looking to sign him to an extension. Think they may want to allow the season to play out to see if he can stay healthy/productive first.

True instead of jumping the gun they will have him prove he is past the injuries.

Some folks would be surprised to know Jimmy Smith had better career numbers than Michael Irvin:

J. Smith
862 receptions
12,287 yards
67 TDs

M. Irvin
750 receptions
11,904 yards
65 TDs

And the fact still remains. Players on IR don't win super bowls.

As much as it may hurt, guys who can't stay on the field should be let go. Might hurt us short term, but long term it's much for the better.

Parsons, Cox, and UFA Hines are new additions.
A few LBs were with the team on the roster and PS.
Ok....but if the were on the team and PS......unless there is breakout performances.....We be in trouble, if you want Jaylon & LVE heading toward the door.

True, but since Jaylon and LVE played so bad last year, the bar for a ‘breakout performance’ is pretty low and probable that a player can be better than those two.

I would have never guessed that. Is Jimmy Smith in the Hall of Fame?

Unless I missed it, I’m 99% he’s not.

He’s #24 all-time sandwiched between Brandon Marshall (#23) and Charlie Joyner (#25).

“Smith ended his career holding essentially every major Jaguars receiving record and as of today he is No. 51 all-time in career receiving touchdowns (67), No. 24 in receptions (862), No. 24 in receiving yards (12,287), No. 10 in yards per reception (16.1) and No. 23 in receiving yards per game (22).”
