I will start by saying i do believe the NFC East is trending up again. They still have a way to go but the ship is finally headed in the right direction IMO

BUT

I don't know about anyone else but the reputation of the NFC East as a whole since i would say 2004 is rather depressing and honestly pisses me off when i take a second to look back at the success and i would argue dominance, competitiveness, and rivalry hatred the division as a whole has shared since the 70's.

I mean looking back:

Cowboys of the 70's
Commanders early 80's
Giants late 80's begining of 90's
Cowboys 90's
Eagles early 2000's although no Superbowl wins

I mean yes the Giants won it in 2011 and Eagles in 2017 but the division many would still say was super weak and not taken seriously

Before 2004 This division was so much fun to watch, so dominant , Nobody wanted to see the NFC EAST !
I pray this division gets back to those days !

Having said that! what do you think caused the decline of the division as a whole !

Was It ?

Ownership
Lack of Coaching
Lack of QB's in the division
Salary Cap
Was it Tax reasons players not wanting to go to - NY, Washington, and Philadelphia areas in particular
Drafting

I really pray this division returns to the reputation of the past, but i do pose the question what do you think caused the decline !

Do players from any of the teams in this division even care that the NFC East is looked at as a joke?

What say You ?

I think when you say decline, you’re referencing the sustained conference dominance, then that boils down to salary cap and lack of QB star power.

Who is the best QB the NFC East has ever had? Is it really Aikman? Staubach? There are no contenders to dismount either of them. Just random luck it’s turned out that way.

But otherwise salary cap plays the biggest factor. Sustained dominance is no longer allowed unless you have that all time QB to carry your team through the peaks and valleys

A third reason could be the teams in the division. We’re by far the most valuable foursome in football, Eagles being the least valuable team... and even then last list I saw had them at #10. On top of that, our 4 fan bases blow away any other division as far as populace, sales, turnout, you name it. We don’t have a Jacksonville or a LAC or a Detroit or a Cincinnati bogging down the backend. So the competition to be the top team in this division has no peers. That will prevent someone from going too long with the belt.

Half the reason NEP made so many AFCCG is because Buffalo and NYJ don’t have much of a reputation to uphold. Same with Peyton in the AFC South, Brees in the NFC Sourh.

I do think the salary cap played a huge part for sure I would say their have been a lot of very solid Qb's in our division between all our teams. You make a great point though! Looking at the way brady had a cakewalk in the afc east and if it wasn't for him that division would have been worse then ours

yeah I added the Brady reason to my post. Our division is just better, that’s why it’s harder to win, even when we’re all bad

things come and go in cycles in sports, the NFCE had their moments and now are having a bit of downtrend but it will cycle back up again..

I think this year 3 teams battle it out with 9-11 wins. Eagles load up next season and it’s a legit four team race at the top

Look no farther than the four owners. Dan Snyder will never win and the other three had success despite themselves.

The latest ranking put out by Forbes with regard to the most valuable sports franchise in the world has the Cowboys at 1, Giants at 9, WFT at 19, and Philly at 21.

I think all 4 teams are for sure trending up. Nfce sure hasnt been that great for a while.
Since 2004 this is how many good/great seasons the nfce has had:

Dallas - 5 good
Philly - 8 good 1 great
Wft - 2 good
Giants - 4 good 2 great

I think the state of the NFCE is fine. All the teams suck except the Cowboys. We should sweep the division.

There are several factors but the most significant to me is turnover. Look at the East coaching carousel and show me the GM that has a vision of what his team should be. They don't even grasp what it used to be.

The East used to stand for physical, tough run teams with good defense but so did the North, the Black and Blue division, but look at them now. Part of this was the owners move toward a more wide open higher scoring game which lends itself to the more cerebral and finesse part of the game than the sheer physicality.

You would be hard pressed to find a tougher division in the trenches during the better times. Great DL and OL were throughout the East and playing one of them at home was tough. Is that true now?

WFT might get it because their HC was part of a team that was tough, he's a bit of a throwback that feels his strength is on the D side of the ball and he does have the most physically tough D in the league. How far can that take him without a top 12 QB? Another reason the East is struggling.

Four team divisions just don't inspire the same way as when they were five.

I can remember when there were 8 teams and only 2 conferences in the NFL. When they merged, they flipped BAL, CLE and PIT to the AFC.

If I were King, I would have two conferences of 16 teams and there would not be interconference play except in the preseason and the SB. Each team would play the other 15 teams in their respective conference once, flipping home field every year, and play 2 teams, eventually 3 because they will end up with an 18 game regular season, on a rotational basis. The scheduling would be level and the top 8 teams would make the playoffs with no bye week for any team except the playoffs would be pushed back a week so every team gets an additional week. 2 top ranked teams play on Friday against the 8 seeds, 3 games on Sat and Sun. Highest 2 remaining seeds play the following Sa.

There are other perks in store for you if I am King but I am saving those as a surprise.

How long has it been since the East had a Super Bowl winner?
