Anyone else think the defense is going to make a fairly big jump this year? Maybe not top 10 but at least middle of the road and a noticeable increase in turnovers.

There were two very damning things in the post draft press conference that apparently slipped past you guys but not the reigning, defending, undisputed Likesweight Champion of the World.

1) Needing the Vice President of Player Personnel there to talk about the players selected, with the GM and the Director of Player Personnel present but not capable.

2) Stephen claiming what happened on defense last year was a bit of an aberration. Just bad luck. Happenstance. It couldn't possibly be the personnel because that's on us and well,.... Will, tell them why we have really good players.

The delusional incompetence that has turned this team into losers for the last quarter of a century was on full display there. Rather than start a thread on it I was waiting for someone to point that out. No one did.

I still have a lot of work to do here.

This is what makes Andy Reid great. He embraces his fatness.

I think McCarthy has not.
Hoping he can get the Cowboys rolling like Big Red did the Chiefs.
The week before the game....think,Big Mike calls The Walrus for a bbq joint recommendation in KC?

Quinn isn’t some genius but going from
Nolan to him should result in immediate improvement.

Still stunned we basically threw away a season with Nolan.

How did they throw away a season? They threw away 13 seasons with Garrett and 7 with Marinelli! You think last years team was Super Bowl ready? Plus Quinn wasn't available. Some times the pieces have to fall into place and players need to develop. They're on the right path and did a nice job in the draft the past 2 years getting pieces for the D, but even that path isn't on target for a Championship this year. New coach, a solid 5 year plan and see how that plays out. The expectations seem very far fetched around here considering they've done absolutely nothing for a quarter century!

How nice of MM to give the players one less OTA day. This will go a long way with player respect.

Only 31 in rookie camp is low. They usually sign a few more UDFA's as well bring in 10 to 15 invitees. This year they only brought in 4.

That is ok, as 2 were QB's, which they had to have anyway. Maybe they feel good with the draft and udfa. So it gives them all more reps to get to know the schemes. More info on each player for evaluations.

So, regression to the mean. Some of y'all will crow about improvement but variability tends to move you back toward average after an extreme performance

In regards to the Stephen Jones comment, I actually have to agree with him. There's not a single defensive player (with the possible exception of Donovan Wilson and Trevon Diggs) that can be happy with the way they performed in 2020.

So either 20-plus players suddenly forgot how to play at least average football or Mike Nolan's scheme was garbage. I tend to think it was the latter.

Is McGovern in the top 2 at OC?

He played a significant number of games at OC in college but I don't think he played any snaps at OC last season.

Who are the options at OC other than Biadasz and McGovern?

Connor Williams has been mentioned at center and rookie Matt Farniok started once there at Nebraska. But other than rookie free agent Braylon Jones, Biadasz is the only "true" center on the roster.

Maybe Joe Looney gets a call sometime over the next few weeks.

They were 31st in the league against the run so there really isn’t any other place to go but up.

But now that I’m done being a smart arse, I honestly have no idea if they’ll be better. I think that Quinn is a better coach but I don’t know that he has the tools to run the system that he wants, and I mostly see the same retreads out there with a bunch of rookies.

Farniok started some games at center during his last season at Nebraska and they had him playing there during this week’s rookie minicamp.

I seriously doubt that they’re counting on him this season, but in an emergency, they could use him (like using UDFA Steele last year). Of course, he’ll have to impress at camp to make the 53 man roster, first.

Totally agree. MM should have been shown the door for hiring a total failure like Nolan out of loyalty. The clown show that is the Cowboy front office is a joke also.

Didnt they loosen up rules for practice squad last year? Hopefully that will stay.

Lol MM is so.......
He's lucky the media treats him nicely with the weak questions
Media is so silent and has given MM a pass over last year’s defense . The usual excuses , a bad defensive coordinator and the firing solves it !!
Or Dak was hurt , as if that would have made any difference, cowboys were 1-4 when dak went down and some of these losses were embarrassing.
