James was a oldschool thumper LB..Cox is the more modern pure cover linebacker. I can envision him playing a little safety too. He is very fluid and watching him early on in these last couple days, he has quicks and ball instinct. Call me crazy, the dude looks like a safety to me that happens to play linebacker. Am I the only one seeing this stick out like a sore thumb?

Both 4th Round picks, both linebackers, both from LSU, both Big and tall LBers, Bradie of course had a wonderful career with us. Is it me or is this guy very exciting to have in our roster? Give him #56!
Finally something positive. Thanks!

They’re both black too. After that the comparisons completely stop. 2 completely different players.

Completely opposite skill sets.

BJ: Thumper that couldn't cover.
JC: Great in coverage for a LB. Question marks are all with regards to run defense.

Poor comp, both may play same position but are completely different players.

Wasn’t there a running joke after Kitna with the Lions made lite of his coverage abilities during a press conference!

Four pages in we've come to a broad consensus and emphatic conclusion:

Bradie James ≠ Jabril Cox

I haven’t read through the thread but I’m sure you’ve been told that the only similarities they have is the school they went to.

Bradie James was getting to where he was a liability in the era he played in.. He’d struggle in today’s game.

Cox can run and he can cover. He may struggle against the run early on but he’s a big safety at linebacker.

I guess there's some truth to that but I've seen Cox make some very good tackles. He's not known for it, though. Interesting . . . o_O

Better comparison, Darren Woodson, a undersized linebacker in college that could cover moved to safety, that's where Cox belongs..

True enough but he was an extremely physical safety at 6-1 and 219 lbs. I'm recalling all the times I've seen him splatter people! ;)

Cox is 6-3, 233, which is more in line with what an NFL LB should be. Pound for pound, it's pretty tough to compare with Woody! o_O

I believe Jabril Cox will carve out his own success story as a LB but in a dissimilar way that Bradie James did.
Both are reasonably good in their own right, though. Both of 'em have a very different type of skill sets!

I disliked Bradie James, his lack of mobility and cover skills.

Why limit him to Brady James? Its preseason! He's a combo of Ray Lewis and Ronnie Lott.

Some parting gift, Grandpa Jones' Yodelling hits CD (which I've already got), thanks a lot.
