Treating what he did against the Steelers like it’s on par with DeNucci did against the Eagles is equally unconvincing.

If you can’t see the differences between the two there’s a fundamental problem.
Where in the world did you come up with me treating his game against the Steelers as on par with DeNucci? I said nothing at all like that.

I hope that we keep a sharp eye out for as best #2 as possible. I wouldn't have minded if Andy had stayed....I'm not judging him based on last years hot mess.

We have some medical uncertainty with Dak. Even if he looks good at the start....that was a pretty terrible injury. We need to consider this contested #2 has a very real possibility of coming in. If we are sure Gilbert is that guy...fine. Not come in to a hot mess but a good healthy team.

Lottsa people make assumptions and connections that were never the intent.

Maybe, but that doesn't really change what I said. It still leaves us in the same place about being a long way from being able to say he is fine. Without more evidence we just don't know.

I will say that, while I was generally happy with Gilbert's one start last year, it is worrisome that over 7 years and time with 5-6 teams, however brief that time was in some cases, that he has spent very little time on an active roster, and generally has even struggled to stick with practice squads. Sure teams can make a mistake, but that's 7 years and multiple teams, so it would be hard to argue that he hasn't had plenty of opportunity to show he can be a #2.
I'll give him that he did look decent in that game last year but he didn't look nearly good enough for me to punt the backup QB position and go and get him. Hell with another year under his belt for all I know Dinucci might be better than him.

Just gimme the cheapest QB out there and I'll be ok with it. I'd even go with DiNucci if it meant pinching pennies. If Dak goes down again then we'd be headed for another Top-10 pick anyway. This team isn't good enough overall to be a Nick Foles backup away from still being a playoff team

If any team loses their starting quarterback for several games, they're screwed.

There are about 15-20 legitimate NFL starting quarterbacks on the planet at any given time. The rest are trainwrecks waiting to happen.
Not necessarily. The Cowboys lost Romo in the preseason in 2016 and that did not screw the Cowboys. In 2017 the Eagles lost Wentz after Week 13, and Foles was behind center the rest of the season and through a SB victory.

That's not to say that is the norm, because it's not, but it's certainly not an absolute that a backup QB can't keep a team in the playoff picture.
