Dalton returning would be a real shame since they would miss out on the comp pick (did someone mention a 4th?). I don't think many people would want to effectively trade a late 4th for another year of backup Dalton.

Agree. Give us the comp pick.

Also Nagy said after the draft, that Dalton is the starter. Does not mean anything, as it could all change. But I really do not see them releasing him.
Not sure what Mickey was thinking suggesting that. But it is the off-season, and what-ifs are abundant.

What happened to Gilbert? Can they not develop him? OH ...right...this is the Cowboys.
He played great against Pitt the best D in the NFL even though we lost. He's got potential!!! Why are we looking for another retread!!??o_O

competion....you don’t just want to hand the backup spot to him bc he had a decent game....he’s got to tee pushed in camp and show consistency

After seeing what happened last year, I'm not as concerned about backup QB any longer. If the defense doesn't improve and Dak is out for an extended period it doesn't matter.

Having someone capable that can start a couple games and manage the game enough to let others around them win their matchups is all I can realistically expect. Perfectly fine rolling with Gilbert.

I don’t see any dilemma other than how many QBs to keep on the roster. Gilbert, Rush, or Dinucci will be the backup. Do the Cowboys keep 3 QBs on the roster like last year? Needed to especially with covid.

Does Dinucci develop enough to push for a roster spot? If not, can Dinucci go to the PS?

I think Dinucci develops and shows something and will be the backup next year. Just got to get through this year. I think Gilbert can be that bridge.

Mickey talks about back up QB's. Who is or may become available.

Not really many out there, and if any come free later on. Other teams will be looking at them as well.
not really many players will be cut on cut down and those who are QB hogging at the moment not knowing their situations like the Texans, maybe CHI etc etc etc i believe many solid backups will be avialable by game 1 or 2 of the season..

why worry now?

if Dak goes down for the entire season again does it matte whos on that list that we bring ion now or later??

if a true scenario came up and dak goes down and the team is in the payoff hunt you go trade for better player to finish the season..theres truly no rush at the moment..

Mostly agree, I have zero expectations for Nucci though. Granted he didn't have an offseason, but hopefully he can show a little more this year. The game he started was an odd one and still crazy we had him throw 40 times.

It is a mystery why Gilbert is not getting any respect or a chance to play some .

Problem there is the trade deadline is a little early to determine that...

Also I can't see how a decent caliber starting QB would be available mid season, and if so how effective would they be?

Bottom line is we need Prescott healthy. Period.

Although it's nice to know there's a capable backup if he goes down for say, six weeks mid season.

Whenever a team loses its starting QB for the season the whole deal is compromised. No doubt.

So yeah, the backup matters, but it doesn't.

dont really what happened to tankers why if dak goes down to you want to scratch your way to 7-10 as opposed to 3-14 nd go get better players..im not into tanking but most backups are not getting you to the promise land , yes i know a few ties in history they can but lets not get ti twisted Rogers goes down Love is going to get hem to the NFCG? i doubt it ,lets go through all 32 show me the backups that you wont miss much of beat with if the starter goes down for 6+ games?

Im saying many of the same rated qbs as were already signed as backup will be released before game 1 2 as rosters settle in and we can get another guy.

BTWE I e last years daltons signing but the haters around here saying he sucked, were wrong, but if they feel a quality backup like Daltons sucked, well they dont deserve a good one.. let it ride with jags we have...

lastly i thought GG was a pet cat hero around here so why isnt he a viable backup... :)

As far as Gilbert, I point to a couple of things....

Pittsburgh didn't really show up that day. They were heavily favored. There was also little film on him.

He is almost 30 years old and never stuck anywhere for a reason.

The backup QB is a catch 22. If Dak goes down and the season is lost, you kinda want a not so great backup for certain reasons in the future (see team tank)....but what of you lose Dak for seven games, and he is 8-2 in the games he plays.

A team would figure to want someone capable of going 3-4 and saving the season.

Personally I don't think a move is needed and all in all, just roll with Gilbert.

DiNucci is safe as #3. The guy should at least get some preseason reps this year. MM always keeps a younger guy to develop.

Think about it....the guy was asked to start in Philly last year without ever having taken a preseason snap in his life. Played at James Madison.

He had zero shot in that game now he is completely written off by fans. Has a shot to be an OK backup.

Rush reminds me of Garrett in 12 different ways so no need for that lol....

Prescott....Gilbert....Nooch.

no mystery....hes just not that good or that special...

- he didn't have an exemplary college career

- 6th round draft choice

- on his 8th professional team (NFL and CFL)

- Played one game last year with a 72.6 QBR

journey man 3rd type of qb....lower grade backup quality...no mystery, hes just not that good.
