I'm all for bringing in lots of young WR's to try and knock off the back end vets (who cost a lot more $) like Wilson and Brown. I hope Vasher can make the team, to save the team some cap space for the better players they need to pay.

Interesting the way suddenly we are looking for tall fast WRs going forward.

This tells me we are looking for improved Redzone play possibly.

Enjoy.

My thanx to the poster for sharing this.

A few comments.

1. The thread title doesn't make much sense considering Vasher wasn't drafted.

2. The team may well be looking for someone tall and fast, and maybe for improved red zone play (Vasher can certainly go up and get a ball), but that doesn't necessarily mean that's a trend going forward, especially since the team didn't even use a draft pick on a player like that. Undrafted free agent signings are long shots to make the team at all. It may just mean the Cowboys think a tall guy might be a benefit to the team as it sits today, and hope someone can step up in training camp.

Being undrafted Vasher will have to makes plays with every opportunity that comes his way the margin for error with undrafted tends to be much less. I think he can make this team but it will not be an easy task, it falls to him to go out and impress the coaches with his play. You do that everything else will take care of itself

I don't think the difference in their pay will break he cap.
What may be a factor thought, is the one year contracts vs. a 3 or 4 year contract. IF, the play is close enough o keep him.
The vet experience is worth that money for on the field of play, less chance of a critical mistake.
IMO anyway.
I know what you are saying, knock off the vet players if one can contribute, but it is not always the best thing to do.

He and Brennan Eagles seem like the same type of prospect. Big guys that have trouble beating press coverage, don't run great routes, don't play as big as they are and drop too many passes. A lot to clean up and develop.

I sort of think his best position will be FS if he can tackle. Not something you would think from a WR.

Wrong Vasher. You want his Uncle, Nathan. He was a DB in the NFL for a few years.

I don't know if this kid can be a DB.

Which is why it costs us more to sign Iowa's Brandon Smith in UDFA.

You mean he fits the Cowboy mold of a player whom we want to develop. We accept all kinds. Send us your injured, mentally challenged and we will ac pet all credit for mining a lump of coal into a diamond. Proceed.

IMO....Cooper, Gallup, Lamb, Wilson and Simi are locks.

In my mind that only leaves 1 WR spot available.

Brown vs Vasher?
Aaron Parker would like a word.

Last years crop goes very forgotten.

Simi has a spot, but not sure if it is PS or active roster.

That leaves 2 spots for some very talented Wide receivers.
Roles will make a huge difference

I’m a huge Texas Tech fan who saw every game TJ Vasher played his entire college career. I’ll be very surprised if he makes this team. I like Vasher a lot, but he’s got some big holes in his game that most fans around here have never seen.

Vasher often made highlight, circus catches which excite many. But he also had a bad habit of dropping routine passes just as often. Here is a detailed look at his strengths and weaknesses.
STRENGTHS
  • Size- He’s 6’6” and has long arms and strong hands
  • His hands and vertical make him capable of many circus catches.
  • Good red zone target. Fights for the ball well with people on him.
  • Long strides help make up for lack of natural speed.
WEAKNESSES
  • Way too many drops of routine throws.
  • Tall, but is rail thin and not very strong. (He did add about 20 LBs this off season)
  • Not that fast or particularly quick off the snap.
  • Has tendency to take plays off.
  • Not much of a candidate for STs play- at Tech he never returned punts or KOs, nor covered kicks.
TJ Vasher has some skills and can make some plays. But he also has huge holes in his NFL game. He would be at best a practice squad long shot IMO.
