Jaylon was meh and on a downward slide since 2018. I would have cut his snaps last year and played more of Gifford and Bernard. Replacing his quality of play simply wasn't hard, even if it took a step up from Gifford and Bernard. Even before the draft, he was going to lose his nickel snaps to Neal, and rightly so. Jaylon is a liability in coverage. A liability in run defense. Shoulda moved on earlier.
When Jaylon had help at LBer he played fine. Like in 2018 with Wolf Hunter. He will be much better taking fewer snaps and pair him up with the new guys. Jaylon will look very good then.

Jabril possesses great coverage skills and will be the reason Jaylon is off the field when we got to the Nickel position.

Long Twitter thread, so I won't post the whole thing for the sake of space. Just click on the tweet and go from there.

This is Cox in man coverage versus a future 1st round Texas A&M TE, and he handles him all game. This dude just gets coverage. He has a feel and understanding of it that most rookies simply don't, definitely not most 4th rounders.

I think those were really bad examples of coverage. Although I dont doubt he is good in coverage, at least one of those the TE was a decoy and you could tell he wasnt even trying to get open.

Agreed. It doesn't make financial sense to keep either LVE or Jaylon beyond 2021, even if they rebound to 2018 form. You have younger and cheaper players under contract for 4+ years. Assuming the rookies pan out, of course....
Exactly.

Still baffled why they didn't dump Jaylon before his salary was guaranteed in March.
You and me both. Maybe it would have shown their hand looking at parsons or whoever else. Cox was luck of the draw considering he fell to the 4th.

And that is why these 3rd rounders better pan out (all of them!). We risked losing out on Jabril Cox 3 times in the 3rd round.

I apologize but there is zero logic in this post. I can understand the third round selections need to perform because of the place where they were drafted. But to then suggest it is due to a risk the Cowboys took, when in fact the Cowboys did draft the player you hold up as the cause of this risk is absurd.

Swinging at one in the dirt.

Strum is the best. Thanks for sharing.

Every other team risked losing Cox by passing on him in the 3rd round too, and some passed on him in the 4th as well, so I don't see that the Cowboys committed a grievous error. Besides, even if the 3rd rounders don't work out it doesn't change the fact we got Cox.
We got him
Better we got him later than earlier
Drafting a player too early is what hurts you
Doesn’t matter how late you get him as long as you get him

Exactly. You don't need a draft to replace Jaylon. Any unsigned corpse off the street would have given them the same production.

Theres my boy Francis showing up.. had hopes for the UDFA last year as a nice developmental prospect, but not sure where Bernard ends up now, Gifford as well.

From the limited number of times I've seen Jabril Cox, he has played more than physically enough to succeed, with some solid tackles. Of course, his pass coverage has never been in question. I'm looking forward to seeing him in TC and am hoping for good things to come, as a result.

I’m intrigued by Jabril Cox and certainly agree that his potential as a LB who can cover is exciting. When I hear the word “potential”, I’m also reminded of the funny quote from the great former Texas Longhorn head coach Darrell Royal: “Potential just means you ain’t done it yet.”.

Posting the ridiculous doesn't help the argument. Clearly Jaylon, while disappointing, is much better than that, and if the team wanted to replace him why would their goal be to replace him with a bum, or even a similar level player rather than a quality draft pick they hoped would improve the position?

I hate seeing all these expectations heaped on a rookie 4th rounder. Yeah, he played at LSU but they sucked last year. He was a good player on a bad defense. He's not going to come here and instantly be a star. If he works hard and continues improving, he might be a good player.

I love this guys under cheap contracts for 4+ years talk - that is UNTIL THEY HOLD OUT AND EXTORT THEIR FRANCHISE like Zeke did.

No, he won’t. Jaylon is a joke.
