Not defending Jaylon, but he certainly wasnt the only player to check out last year.
Would be great to see him bounce back and get his game in line,,, meaning str8 downhill at the QB,, use him as a blitz machine dont care if its one dimensional

He didn't check out.

He tried hard to look inept. That took effort.

Sincerely,

Ownership

Even when there's tons of footage showing he avoided contact a ton of the time and might has well have not been out there during those times? Heck, if availability were all it was, I'd play for vet minimum, line up and then run to an empty part of the field for the rest of the play and do that every play...but hey, I was available and never got hurt.
I do love context.
Thank you for bringing some.

not much Quinn can do with a non-athletic LB...he like LBs that can cover, roam from sideline to sideline and attack. Jaylon at this point has no agility, no change of direction and is a total liability in coverage and not very good at hitting the right hole any more..... not much quinn can do with a limited LB at this point, might as well get anything for him.

now jaylon is not athletic. lol.

Uh, no.

NFL.com's Peter Schrager has suggested Herbert as a dark horse MVP candidate. ESPN’s Mike Greenberg has made Justin his #1 MVP prediction.

I spend time on a Chargers forum and can tell you: Jaylon isn't even on the radar in L.A., believe me. In Dallas Jaylon might carry some name recognition or cachet. Not now, not nationally.

a forum consists of fans that care about the team. it's not a good indicator of what will or wont intrigue the casuals who are not attending games let alone posting on forums. and brandon staley isn't selling any tickets lol

herbert is though, of course, and absolutely.

I can tell you with confidence that he is. (I've spent over 10 hours on a Chargers forum this spring)

Staley led the L.A. Rams to the #1 defense last season so Angelenos have an appreciation for his cred, and his press conferences are treated by Charger fans a bit like Bill Parcell's was back here in the day. He is a very charismatic guy with players and with fans.

It's because of Herbert and Staley that I've taken up the Chargers as my AFC fav. And there are a lot of new fans showing up on that forum each week.

Jaylons process is in dog years in his mind lol..just happy to take a check, results be damned. To me, its addition by subtraction if hes gone. His kind of attitude might taint the new guys coming in and we cant afford to risk that.Bad habits breed bad results.

You'd be taking on a sizable dead cap hit in 2022.

But I think Smith (and LVE) might not be long for this world. So..................

And you don't have to pay him for perpetuity.

I don't know about his leg. Could be he is cooked but his biggest issue last year was his head. I am willing to give him a mulligan because a brand new defense was being taught online. He played well against the Giants last year and briefly looked competent.

Now if you'll give me draft picks then I don't need to wait. He is a progress stopper for Cox

Love the LB's we got in the draft but please....

I am hearing that Parsons has more to learn about the position and his greatest contribution in his rookie season may be as a situational pass rusher. I love Jabril Cox too, but these guys are rookies, opponent RB's TE's and O-linemen are going to teach them a lot this season and then their greatest jump in awareness, the big picture, when the game slows down...whatever....this takes place in their 2nd season.

Not only that, but talking trade before these rookies play even one down of preseason ball is beyond optimistic. When you are willing to trade the team's leading tackler, the 3rd leading tackler in the league during the 2020 season, you are flat anointing your rookies.

Worse, some of us have conveniently ignored a simple fact. Players get injured. We are going to lose one or two of the guys we are most excited about. It usually happens to most teams, even Tom Brady got knocked out of a whole season.

Injuries are random, although I have to admit that it always feels as though supernatural forces enjoy tormenting Cowboy fans. There are times when injuries can focus on a single squad with devastating consequences. A prime example destroyed the Cowboys season last year.

Last season the O-line began fracturing with the retirement of Fredericks while picking up steam before the season began when Collins was out then with Tyron going down after two games. The backup tackle, Fleming was also battling injuries.

It certainly didn't stop there, it took down Looney for a while. Basically the Cowboys played games with an offensive line composed of 3rd stringers. The line had an undrafted rookie, a rookie that was a 4th round draft choice, and an undrafted 2nd year player. Even Martin went down after the 10th game.

So what if it is the LBers turn this season?

Let's say the Cowboys trade Smith or LVE. Perhaps you are thrilled when they decide to trade both before training camp, which they won't but let's follow the possible consequences. It's the 2nd day of training camp and one of our exciting rookie LBers go down. Pick one. It doesn't look good, he will miss at least half the season. Pick a veteran free agent LB. He gets hobbled in preseason game #4.

Don't pretend it can't happen. Knowing the Cowboys history when it comes to lucky breaks, rather their lack of, the circumstances are practically predictable. You now have a possible starting lineup of a rookie and somebody who played mostly special teams last season.

Quality depth should be treasured, not squandered on the hopes the Cowboys get a day #2 draft pick next May. Having the LB's the Cowboys have gives them the absolute luxury of sustaining injury to the squad without the quality of their play being effected. Both LVE and Smith cannot help being motivated by that level of competition. They should both have great seasons....barring injury.

I just hope he's held accountable.

If he picks up what he left off last year, ride the pine!

Seriously, what is up with this team and their inability to draft or sign a linebacker that isn't trash or injury prone?

Let's hope this draft class can change that... But I don't think I've seen this team have a dependable linebacker since I've been a fan... I suppose Bradie James is the best of the bunch.

It is hard to check out when you have a get out of jail free card.
That free card expires though, so if Jaylon has any challenge physically still, he most defiantly has developed a self imposed mental challenge now as well.

Why would we reduce an area of strength right now for a 5th rounder, which is essentially a junk pick?
