-------He still has a chance to get back on track.

Why can't Booger EVER just move on....this is Sean Lee Part Deux. If you can get anything for him, get it and go forward! I would make such an awesome GM....but then again, I'm honest in my marriage and hardly drink anymore. Just scattershooting here...do we still own the rights to Jeff Rohrer???

Personally I love the idea of Jaylon and Vander coming back having to prove it. This is the year where they have to show out in my opinion so it benefits us to have them on this current roster. If they can't stay on the field or are limited they won't stay on the field. If you can get some great value for either of them I would pull the trigger but this doesn't look likely.

I think it’s two things:

  1. They want to see him prove it in terms of having a healthy season; and
  2. If he can prove #1 (and of course play well) they would offer him an extension much less AAV than what picking up his 5th year would have been.
Between he and Jaylon, I’ve got infinitely more confidence in LVE turning it around than I do Jaylon.

I also think LVE’s first half of the season is critical. If he’s healthy and plays well I think you’ll see the Cowboys try to extend him rather than him hot free agency and let the price jack up.

There is no option to extend if he plays out his 4th year. It would be a new contract. Dallas would be competing with the rest of the league. That's why they lost Byron.

Personnel-wise, it is the dream of every GM to create the depth that the Cowboys have at the LB position.

You treasure depth, you don't trade it......especially before even one down of preseason football.

I doubt we'll see LVE make a punishing hit on a RB or TE in space again. Bookmark this
Edit: in a cowboys uniform at the least

The front office values their own teams players more than they value other teams players. It is the single biggest critical flaw in the system and it taints everything that we do. Jerry wants to be best friends with every one of his draft picks and he treats them like family members. There is no impartiality. There is no honest self evaluation. There is only blind hope and faith. It really is the equivalent of a junior sports team that drafts all of the coaches sons and daughters then gets smoked by the parents who drafted the best players instead of their own kids.

I'd do it for a 4th or higher. I'd rather see what Jabril Cox has got at this point.... LVE hasn't played with any level of consistency in 2 years and he's never more than one neck injury from retirement. If someone else wants to kick the tires on him, cool, but I've got my two linebackers.

I wonder what was offered. If it were a first rounder I would have taken that in heartbeat.
Doubt a guy with an injury history and a free agent next year would bring a first
I’d trade one of them and a 4th or higher is a no brainer to take

A 4th or higher would be crazy to turn down
Some say we could get a high comp but even if you got a 3rd round comp, a 4th the year earlier is more valuable
I get wanting depth but if I could get a 4th for eith LVE or Jaylon I’d move one of them now

Most of our defensive and especially LB issues were directly related to the DL and more so the complicated Nolan defense. I'm tired of all this suddenly these guys (Jaylon and LVE) have no ability. Nolan put our defensive personnel in a no-win situation.
I’m sure that’s a part of it
With LVE it’s been more about injury than anything else
With Jaylon to me it’s more about getting his reads right
I wouldn’t trade both because of depth but I’d sure move one of them for a 4th in a heartbeat

I doubt it was anything more than a day three pick.

They will get that as a comp of they don't re sign him.

Why not keep him to see if he turns things around, or if nothing else....for depth...if the compensation is the same, which may suggest it was more.

If it was a 1st or 2nd....they are idiots for not doing it.
I doubt it was a first or second
I also doubt it was a day 3 pick
If no one was offering more than that then no one is gonna give them a deal that gets you much of a comp pick

I've got faith in neither. And honestly, I have zero faith LVE could even stay healthy even if his play turned around. He smells like Sean Lee 2.0.........

I am hoping Parsons and Cox are legitimate and we can move on from the other two.

We suck on defense and he has phenomenal talent and has put it on display.

They'd be fools to trade.

I don’t think they lost Byron.. Dallas didn’t feel like
He was worth the money.

I know. But part of that was due to his price going up due to being a FA. If a player kills it in the last year of his rookie deal you're going to pay top dollar for that player if you intend to keep him. There is no such thing as an honest offer in that situation. It's the highest offer.
