We always count on PROgression. No one ever considers REgression.
100% agree Marcus. I have said it on this board before the average NFL player gets worse from year to year not better. The only people you should expect improvement from are first and second year players. The best you should hope for in most cases (QB excluded) is that players do not regress. I find on this board many people are always hopeful that players who are getting worse every year will suddenly get better. Unless they are in a contract year this is most likely not going to happen. The moral of the story is that you need to keep the team as young and hungry as you can. Think Cowboys 2016.

I don't tend to give the Joneses a lot of props (because they are usually pretty underwhelming at anything football related), but I give them credit for sticking with Gregory when a lot of teams might have moved on.

Typing props for Jerry and Stephen makes me throw up in my mouth a little.

To be honest if it were my call to make I would have released Gregory after the 2nd suspension. Having said that Jerry stuck with Gregory and I really do hope he can come in and help. Trying to judge him fully off last year I think is a bit of a reach given the fact he was still under suspension and did not see the field until week 8 of last year. I do think with a full camp he will be more prepared for the upcoming season. Really no way to simulate the game by working out alone, getting football ready and just working out is not exactly the same thing

We always count on PROgression. No one ever considers REgression. Everyone is proclaiming 10+ sacks, etc. but he's a question mark, IMO. Can he be depended on for a full season, having never played one?
Fuzzy answer on This guy.

Excellent work as a humanitarian. Not so much as a head of football operations.

I am quad polar LOL....well, joking aside, its a serious issue and bipolar brains sometimes work too hard and are too active and restless per se.....I guess he discovered pot slows his mind and relaxed him
If it works for him he should be allowed to use it

I understand all of that. What I am saying is, how can anyone of us, make a determination, without proof? Using the terminology, " not like the rest of us " is a veiled assumption.
If you aren’t bipolar then he’s not like you in that sense
He’s the one who said he was bipolar
To me if smoking pit helps him the league should allow it
The league is ran by older, out of touch guys
Society no longer cares if player smoke pot

Don't you have to at least question it a little bit? I mean of all the things that could possibly help isn't it a bit of a coincidence? Kinda like how cult leaders are always instructed by the higher power to sleep with large numbers of young girls.

Bipolar disorder manifests in different symptoms for different people, even splitting into Type I and Type II within the diagnosis itself.

Not being familiar with Gregory’s personal life and what he is experiencing, I would say that the trouble he has experienced is more related to substance addiction and the aging rules of the NFL rather than Bipolar disorder.

Most likely he’s self medicating the depressive episodes of bipolar disorder, so it’s kind of a war on two fronts. It’s traditionally hard to treat those dual diagnosis mental health/addiction situations.

At least that’s my incredibly superficial assessment from halfway across the country via the internet. Either way, I hope he can at least contribute. I would be happy for him if he could, but the team is in trouble if they’re relying on him to be a cornerstone. Not because of any diagnosis, but he’s simply an aging player without a lot of experience at this point.

I believe there are legitimate MEDICAL uses for marijuana. Ones that don't involve giant bongs, pizza boxes, and video games.

Politicians and big pharm but the kabosh on any research while also giving it the stigma many years ago. We are decades behind truly understanding it.

Granted....heavy rec users didn't help. But...millions of Americans have/do use it to one extent or another and carry on normal productive lives.

Meanwhile...alcohol...legal nearly the whole time.

yet most of the research I have read says Marijuana use by those will bipolar see worsening of the condition and a higher rate of suicide. Personally I don't care about people smoking weed or not but I do not think it is the magic cure all and according to many researchers and mental health doctors it can do more harm than good with people who are bipolar

Yes, marijuana specifically increases the risk of manic symptoms.

And you never want to be treating depressive symptoms with a substance. It trains your brain to make itself think that your body needs the substance to feel normal. Once it wears off, you feel worse than before, and it pushes the addiction aspect as you start to chase that new baseline with more of whatever substance.

And then there’s the notion that athletes shouldn’t want smoke in the fluffy, pink, vulnerable lungs. I wouldn’t say so care from a societal standpoint, but coaches have to not like the players doing it from a performance standpoint.

I have no clue if it helps
But he seems to think it does
Hard to find any research on it because of federal restrictions
Just to do research you have to go thru tons of paperwork and can’t research anything not grown by the government so no idea if it’s the same
Only research I’ve found is on oil for seizures and seemed to work atleast initially for some
But even that you can’t get in most states because it’s illegal in many states
The number of states it’s legal is growing but it’s still illegal federally

I just don’t care
If he thinks it helps him then I don’t care if he uses it
The league should simply stop testing for it
In many states it’s legal. Why not just stop testing and let players who want to use it, use it
If they use it in a state it’s illegal then treat it like any other arrest would be treated
It doesn’t harm anyone else
Drinking is legal but if you drive that’s illegal
The league doesn’t police players for alcohol
If they get a DUI then they punish them for that
Simply follow the same process

There is research on this from mental health specialist. Clearly many people who have mental disorders according to studies choose to smoke Marijuana but does not mean that is the best thing for them, remember they have a mental disorder probably not the best judge of what is good for them. I would be more concerned with the higher rate of suicide by those who were chronic marijuana users with Bipolar. I understand many people who love smoking weed will defend it to the hilt, myself I don't care and was smoking weed long before some of you were born and again I don't think it is a big deal, then again I am not Bipolar I do not have a mental health condition.

You are right drinking is legal guess what alcohol for people with mental disorders is not a good thing either. I don't care if the league now makes it legal, my concern would be for the person with the mental disorder and the long term effect for him.

Again I don't care that the league now makes it legal my concern is for the person and his well being. Fine you get high and play football and? Gregory will not get suspended that is good but what about his well being now and later on? I'm not worried about the league
