Don’t read too much into OTAs either way

This is our yearly reminder to not overrate or get caught up in what you hear these days about matchups being played out in OTAs while players are decked up in shorts and t-shirts as opposed to pads.

These events can reveal some things about individual players like speed and quickness, but it is never done in a real game context with pads and other factors that make football a team sport.

I’m not saying off season workouts and OTA matchups means nothing. But I am saying it doesn’t mean enough to get too high or too low on a player.

We all can remember the proclamations of greatness spouted by too many Cowboys fans about the “amazing” Rico Gathers from a few years ago. A “star” of OTAs and even a few big preseason game plays, yet currently no longer playing NFL football. Of course most of his “greatness” occurred while wearing a t-shirt or while being matched up in a ps game against a UFA safety from a directional school with no chance of ever making an NFL roster.

Let’s not read too much either way into OTAs.

In pads is when and where it counts

I’m sure most of the OTA hype happens because we’re all starved for some real football. Just remember that drills aren’t real football!

What makes me it worse is all of Cowboys.com media members are hyping if up as if it’s real game experience. McCathy must have sent a memo to sell his scheme or no media access.

Rico was done wrong. People think this Pitts guy is gonna be something? Oh, what could have been with Rico.

Do you mean when some of these players are just learning new concepts and seeing certain things for the first time we shouldn't confuse that for full game time speed? Wow, who would have ever known that if you didn't tell us? Gee thanks, guy. ;)

I can't get no satisfaction,
I can't get no satisfaction.
'Cause I try and I try and I try and I try.
I can't get no, I can't get no.

When I'm drivin' in my car
and @Rockport comes on the radio
and he's tellin' me more and more
about some useless information
supposed to fire my imagination.
I can't get no, oh no no no.
a Hey hey hey, that's what I say.

When I'm watchin' my Cowboy OTAs
and @Bobhaze comes on and tells me
how white my shirts can be.
but he can't be a man 'cause he doesn't smoke
the same cigarrettes as me.
I can't get no, oh no no no.
a Hey hey hey, that's what I say.

OTA's were designed to offer some hype before camp, where the ultimate hype takes place. This guy is HOF material because he's smoking the defensive secondary and we forget we could probably gain 100 on this D last OTA/camp in a diving helmet and flip flops.

I do not care how they look against each other cuz they ain't playing each other when it gets real. How do they look against people not trying to help them land a job?

They're trying to make something out of a catch, one catch, Lamb made at OTA?

On a better note Gregory is not suspended yet.
