Disagree. I'm not going to pretend this team is what it was last season until it shows otherwise. Ignoring the turnover on this defense is impossible for me to do. This defense is not what it once was and can not be defined by last year's results. That's not an honest accounting of this defense's transformation.
Yet, you are already calling the #1 pick a bust and you won't support him. Don't you think one of the main reasons he was drafted is to address this sieve of a run D?

Pithy but untrue. You are what you are until you are not. What you were is only pertaining to a frame of time in the past. 27th is the past.
Well, since they're not playing there is no present. I don't imagine many DL's changed positions from the end of the season until now.

It's not like the Cowboys made any eye opening moves on the DL in the off season so it's a Parcells "you are what your record says you are" kind of situation.

It's a moot point because it counts about as much as power rankings.

You and Rocky pretend it's Groundhog Day every offseason, as if nothing from "the past" is still part of the current team.

"27. DALLAS COWBOYS
Randy Gregory will have an opportunity to finally put it all together as the starting left edge defender in Dan Quinn’s new defense in Dallas. The first six years of his NFL career have featured up-and-down play and extended suspensions, but he was playing the best football of his career down the stretch of 2020, earning an 80.5 overall grade on his 270 defensive snaps. He still needs to show he can play up to that level as a starter over the course of an entire season.

While Dallas' edge group features some promise, the team needs several interior players to take big steps forward. The Cowboys allowed 2.3 rushing yards before contact per attempt in 2020 — a half yard more than any other defense in the NFL." (I bolded this part)

This is per PFF, so some will discount it, but I feel it's pretty spot-on.

The last sentence is telling. A massive embarrassment.
There should be some improvement with better coach TC and a healthy Oline that keeps the Dline off the field LOL

Let me set the record straight. No one knows what Parsons' future holds. At this point, I have no right to call him a bust anymore than anyone else has to call him a boom. I think that is an honest statement. I hold him in no higher or lower regard than any other rookie on this team. As for my support, he'll get it once he's earned it in the regular season. That is my prerogative.

It's very Zen, except that they are two of the most un-Zen peeps I have ever seen.
I like contradictions.

And yet you've called him a straight bust in the past.
And you dog him more than any other pick consistently.

But why start off on the negative side with any drafted player, especially the 1st pick? Because they didn't get your guy?

I didn't like the Charleton pick but I at least waited to see if I might be wrong about him.

Time doesn't stop just because they are not playing. The present exists. Your need for a ranking in the present is illogical. Just about everything that matters to defense has changed since they finished last season. Parcell was right, the defense was what its record says it was... 27th last season but that defense is no more. Forget about ranking in the present, we'll do that in due time.

Only thing they have really done that has a chance to make a difference is Urban and they drafted Osa with a 3rd round pick. Thats not a whole lot. We can only hope that Gregory is better with a full offseason and Gallimore makes a jump in his 2nd season.

Parsons blitzing off the edge and up the middle should help some on passing downs.

PFF - which is the same organization that made this ranking - had Lawrence as a top-5 run defender.

The fact that you use sack production as your only standard for passrushing means you're not really paying attention.

Go ahead and whine about what he makes all he wants - he's an excellent player.

He is an excellent player, but sacks are the cornerstone stat for a DE. You dont get fumbles and loss of yards on pressures. One sack pretty much kills a drive. A pressure just rushes the QB. Huge, huge difference.

Id say it's fair that we are going to need defensive production from unexpected places.

Realistically a couple of these new guys are gonna work out, and a good few of them will not.

We will be better because being worse doesn't seem possible.
