I am going to define “a breakout season” as this: Reaching at least the Conference championship game or better for the first time in a quarter century.

So with that definition in mind, I’m going to list 3 reasons why we WILL have a breakout year, followed by 3 reasons we won’t have a breakout season.
3 REASONS WHY WE WILL
  1. Dak’s return plus a healthy offensive line for a full season makes this offense more potent than ever.
  2. Big Mac makes better in game decisions and Kellen Moore has grown after his first year as OC into an excellent offensive mind.
  3. The addition of Dan Quinn as a quality DC plus adding Parsons’ athleticism, plus the growth of several other rookies makes this defense come together late in the season to become a physical, tough defense just in time for the playoffs.
3 REASONS WHY WON’T
  1. The OL (specifically Tyron Smith) cannot stay healthy, thus making the offense constantly shuffling different OL combos making it difficult for the O to gain continuity and confidence.
  2. The soft culture and lack of toughness fostered by the Jones meddling continues and the team folds when times get tough.
  3. The new defense and its new infusion of youth never get it together and it continues to not get TOs, sacks or pressure. Bottom third of the league again in performance.
What you think? Give me your reasons why we will have a breakout season or 3 reasons why we won’t.

Big Reasons Why we Will Break Out:
1 Healthy
2 Team Discipline
3 Leadership
4 Quality Depth
5. Added dimensions (vastly improved D” + turnovers, More speed/Physicality on both side of ball, 2019/20 Dak with 2016-like Zeke, much better RB usage)

Big Reasons Why we Won’t:
1) major key Injuries we cannot overcome- (particular to starting QB)
2) If players lack of effort- quits/stops fighting
3) Lack of quality backup QB per injury
4) Coaching failure: bad HC decisions, asst. failures,
5) Lack of Discipline –self-destructive turnovers, penalty-riddled, team always playing from behind

Well written.
Could be a combination of each category.

This current unit is built to compete for an NFC East title now. It features an offense with a lot of depth & a defense we can expect to improve drastically from last season.

Reasons we will or won't : excluding health which is a given.

We Will if:
1) More talent on defense and better coaching
2) Offensive line comes back together
3) Coaching does a better motivation and discipline job

We Wont if:
1) Players don't play to talent level
2) Coaches don't toughen up the team
3) QB doesn't play to his salary

I'm thinking like you.

3 REASONS WHY WE WILL

1. A healthy Dak
2. A healthy offensive line
3. Much improved Defense

3 REASONS WHY WON’T

1. Injuries
2. Mistakes. Penalties, turnovers, etc.
3. Defense is a failure

My prediction for the season is 13-4. With Dak a little unsure of his ankle he will start slow going 1-2 for the first 3 games. We will go 12-2 the rest of the way, and smashing GB in the playoffs getting that monkey off our backs and beating KC 37-23 in the SB. Dak/Zeke will be co-MVPs. Once again we all will proudly say

We should have good football to watch and be able to win the division and maybe a playoff game provided the Olines health stays good and Daks ankle is healed offense should be a slam dunk . Defense has to be better could it really be worse ??

Coaching is a Question mark untill it proves an asset . Dak hardens the culture slightly or maybe its just these Soft candy *** players have a tougher time looking in the mirror when they punkout on him because he works so hard but there will be no true championship breakout with the Jones in control .

This is no reason to sulk enjoy the players maturing and giving their best efforts . Its not their fault that their FO is bottom 5 in talent every year and will never get over the hump . Make your expectations Jones friendly and enjoy a great season

What have we done at DT? JAGs, rookies, and bargain buy free agents.

At least last year this time we could believe we had something with Poe and McCoy. What quality at DT can we even pretend that we have this year?

Quinn's new look defense better make a big difference, because by last year's play we've still got nothing at DT. And that's *before* anyone gets injured in camp.

The soft culture was still ongoing towards the end of the season, so the team would have to totally reverse decades of softness. The character of the team was evident when Dalton took a dirty hit and there was not one teammate that come to his defense or even to see if he was okay. What kind of a team allows that to happen without having some kind of response? It was one of the most embarrassing shows of their lack of toughness and character that any Cowboy team has ever shown.

Pat McAfee just brought that exact incident up out of nowhere today to talk about systemic dysfunction, thought of your post’s coincidence
