Today I turn 55, I've watched every play of every game since 1974. I used to cry when we lost, I even beat up my best friend in HS because he kept making fun of me cause his Commanders beat my Cowboys. As I grew up and life hit me in the face, my loyalty and fandom stayed the same, but my reaction to wins and losses changed. Other than my playful Garrett sucks rant, I now take it with a grain of salt, lime and tequila!

How do you take the wins and losses??

BTW, not looking for birthday wishes, it's understood. Salud!!

Earliest football memory is watching Dallas beat Washington in the hospital with my grandfather (he got out) the year they went 1-15. We were interested in the Henryetta kid my dad scrimmaged against in high school (he started young with kids). Aikman didn't play that game but everyone cheered for the win and I was a Cowboys fan ever since.

Got kicked out of class in 7th grade for getting too loud when they showed the Alvin Harper TD against the Packers in the playoffs the next Monday during Channel1 or whatever the school news was called.

Now it's just whatever. Hope they do well. Would be nice if they did.

Been watching since mid-60's. As a teenager I took some losses personal...by my early 20's, I realized its just a game. Nothing good comes from bragging about winning nor griping about losing...its a game.

I played till college so the real social redeeming value football/athletics provides IMHO is learning commitment, teamwork, support for team, play within the rules and shake hands afterwards...because its a game. Football is not life nor death and it definitely is not war like these over entitled folks like to say repeatedly these days. Athletes kid themselves if they think playing a game is equivalent to actual war. Ask Rocky Bleier the difference. Much respect for Mr Bleier by the way...he played the game the right way even if it was for the Steelers. I never rooted against Mr. Bleier.

Much respect @Ranching. You seem to have done things the right way as far as teaching the young men who played for you.

I do admit I miss the "Garrett Sucks" threads though. lol

I lived and died with the Landry Cowboys, hated the change, but came to peace with the Johnson 'Boys, and slipped into the, "what will be will be" phase since.
I no longer celebrate victories or replay defeats. Game day is no longer an anticipation of, "We're going to win today!"
Instead its become, "Well, let's see what happens."

Been a fan since 1975.
Watched as many games as I could.
Don't take the losses that hard anymore.
My expectations are seriously lower.
Happy birthday!

Happy birthday Ranching :) May you have many more game day menus ahead of you. But not so fast on the maturity, if I recall correctly you claimed to have set a guy on fire not too long ago

I confess I did cry when I was younger, but to make up for that loss of fluid now I just drink more

I notched another trip around the sun today, as well.

My wife has seen me watch the most devastating losses, and the most thrilling wins over the last thirty years. NHL, and NFL. Win or lose, five minutes after the game she has to ask me how it turned out because she can't tell from my demeanor.

During the game I'm cheering, yelling, complaining, swearing... whatever the situation calls for. As soon as that clock hits zero, my emotional attachment hits zero, too.
