let me trump that,, not to diminish your bday,

of all things i was 10 when my parents came t to DFW TX i.e. Arlington in 1980 and the first game as A yankee and parents sworn to be NY sports fans,

i saw Danny White barely lose to JM with " the catch" which we all know was throwaway that somehow was a miracle catch in the back of EZ,,

somehow i was turned and so was my siblings to follow and out side if my father we all for whatever rational reason became DC Fans for Life,.

so im 51 and was flipped from yankee to bleeding blues and silver and forever , ill get benched defending the Star,,.

My first ever sports cry happened on Dec 31, 1967 when I watched the Ice Bowl with my Dad and grandad. I was 9 yrs old. When the game was over I left the room and cried for about 20 min. When the Cowboys won their first SB in Jan, 1972, I was almost 14, and I shed a few tears of joy then too. Not any tears since, either way.

I stopped getting upset at a Cowboys loss a very long time ago. Probably after I had kids sometime in the 80s. I still want them to win of course and I certainly enjoy all the wins. But the losses don’t bother me as much anymore. Being a father kind of changed my yelling at the TV or getting too upset.

Life and sports can teach you a lot. Even give you some perspective. Sports is fun and a great escape from much of what makes life difficult. But I long ago gave up my feelings being tied to wins and losses for my favorite team. Besides, the Cowboys have been so irrelevant in the playoffs for so long, I just don’t go into a season expecting much more than just my hope that they get lucky and return to glory. Our owner is a brilliant businessman with major issues about control that keeps this team repeating the same mistakes.

I still look forward to every season, every game.

Today I turn 55, I've watched every play of every game since 1974. I used to cry when we lost, I even beat up my best friend in HS because he kept making fun of me cause his Commanders beat my Cowboys. As I grew up and life hit me in the face, my loyalty and fandom stayed the same, but my reaction to wins and losses changed. Other than my playful Garrett sucks rant, I now take it with a grain of salt, lime and tequila!

How do you take the wins and losses??

BTW, not looking for birthday wishes, it's understood. Salud!!
I seen the Cowboys play since Eddie LeBaron played QB , the team wasn’t good, most info was papers or magazines but I enjoyed the wins and understood you can’t always win. Seen some real heart breakers thru the years but the last 20 odd it’s more entertainment and easier to keep wins and loses in perspective when you see the defective product Jerry tries to sell yearly. Enjoy the games but this isn’t the Cowboys you grew up with.

you young baby. Just wait for Gregg to show up and tell you how he helped invent football and still has the picture of him at the ice ball with no shirt on. lmao

I just miss the day of Roger and knowing no game was out of reach if he got the ball in his hands. oh well

Happy birthday, big guy!
Happy birthday young man! I started watching in 1963 when I was 11. I was 35 before losing didn’t keep me awake at night. I cheer as hard as ever, but like most of us here, I no longer “expect” to win, so wins and losses are just another game and another season. I blamed Garrett too, but mostly Jerry “the football guy” Jones. He probably knows a million times more about NFL football than I do, but if he knew ANYTHING about leadership he would know that an organization with TWO leaders cannot succeed.

Reading all the comments here, its amazing what Jerry's ego has done to not only the Cowboys but the minds of us fans...yes, we are all fans. Even the haters, turned haters because of the aforementioned clown. Anyway, i also used to let losses affect even my whole week back in the 90's and prior. The most memorable one was the 49er loss which affected me the whole summer. Now i just watch to see what is going to happen, and most have been just losses mixed with some wins, average and below average play. Nothing special. I have learned not to get my hopes up this time of the year. So i am not affected one way or the other with wins or losses now. I know they will even out. a la Garrett .... if they can win now it will be in spite of the Jones'. That's a heavy burden. Let's see what happens....

Happy Birthday Ranching!!

I used to let losses ruin my day. I would be grumpy all of Sunday. In fact, I got to the point where I could walk in a room and people could tell "Cowboys must have won today (or lost)" depending on my energy. I've grown out of that. Stupid way to live. Now I just take winning as an awesome Sunday bonus and if they lose, whatever, they lose. I obviously want them to win and root hard for it, but if they lose, I'm no longer letting them dictate the way I finish my weekend.

I've stuck with the Cowboys since 1960 when they were introduced into the NFL. It included plenty of years when the losses were torturous! I'll live and stick with 'em 'til the day I kick the bucket. Hopefully, they'll have a stadium in heaven that I can afford. If not, I'll know for sure I've arrived in hell. :D

I don’t watch live football any more. When the game is over, I come to this site to see the initial reactions, watch the highlights, and then watch the game either on tape or online. I can watch plays in slow motion and rewind and watch certain individuals on key plays.

Great post, we are close in age and I started paying attention a couple of years before you.

Those Steeler Super Bowl losses crushed me as a kid. I still remember Golden Richards laying on the ground and Mel Blount just stomping him with the official right there. I screamed at the television for 15 minutes afterwards.

It got worse through my 20's till around 40. I was laying in bed with my heart racing after the Skins came back and beat up 14-13 on two late TD's on a Monday night. I smoked over a pack of cigs during the game, it's 2 in the morning and I'm still laying there fuming. Then I realized most of those players were out partying somewhere, having forgotten about the loss and I'm here having to get up in 3 hours to go to work.

That was the night it changed. No more switching seats, changing shirts, knocking on wood, etc. I just quit it all. I still root for them and will sometimes cuss at the TV, but once the game is over I move on.

It's actually a more enjoyable game now. I think age but things in perspective too. Family and many other things are far more important than a game.

Edit: Happy Birthday!!

Earliest football memory is watching Dallas beat Washington in the hospital with my grandfather (he got out) the year they went 1-15. We were interested in the Henryetta kid my dad scrimmaged against in high school (he started young with kids). Aikman didn't play that game but everyone cheered for the win and I was a Cowboys fan ever since.

Got kicked out of class in 7th grade for getting too loud when they showed the Alvin Harper TD against the Packers in the playoffs the next Monday during Channel1 or whatever the school news was called.

Now it's just whatever. Hope they do well. Would be nice if they did.
*I always knew there was some kinda' etheral reason for me ( in general/ overall) Liking you, ,,, getting kicked out/ expelled from school ,too,,, eh?:lmao2:
