I read an article, can't remember where, that had a roster projection that had him as cut because of Ron'Dell Carter.

That would be fun.

I’ve got high hopes for Odighizuwa. I liked the way he played at UCLA and I’ve always liked shorter guys with longer arms. They have natural leverage because of their height but don’t have the typical drawback that goes with being shorter. They can use their long arms to get off blocks and rarely do they lose the leverage battle.

He’s a very high motor guy with three years starting experience at a bigger school and he has natural strength. The guy is country strong. He’s already more than solid against the run, which isn’t really that difficult to find… but getting that in a 285 pound package that is plenty athletic enough to play the 3-tech spot… that isn’t easy to find at all.

Overall, he’s a complete package that should fit exactly into the role that Quinn needs him for. I think he was a great pick who has both a pretty high floor and a really high ceiling in this defense.

Really excited about this kid, its picks like this that when the pads finally come on is when you can see the player really shine.

Yeah, we won’t be able to tell much with the linemen until the pads come on in July. Odighizuwa in particular, because part of what makes him good is his quickness working in conjunction with that explosive power. Those together will give OL problems… problems that won’t show up until camp when they are a full-go.

Golsten also is a very physical player who will need to be firing live bullets on order for him to show his best.

The probably could have sat in the furthest white chair and still signed the contract where it is in the picture.

Kept watching this video hoping for a few flashes.


That is about all I got.

Hopefully he was just doing what he was told to do. Way too many ineffective snaps.

I don't really see him as a great 3-tech because I'm not sure he has the top-rate pass-rushing skills for the position. I could be wrong about that.

However, I agree on his run-stopping ability, even as a smaller inside player, and think he will be a great fit as a 3-4 DE in the base defense because of that natural leverage and the ability to fight off blocks with his long arms and strength. I think Gallimore's a better 3-tech fit as a pass rusher. It will be interesting to see if Odighizuwa ends up being the DT next to Gallimore in the nickel or if Hill comes on for that role or we play Golston as an inside pass rusher or even Watkins.

I believe I read that somewhere. As a result, there are one or two players at the top of the 3rd round that stalls a string of players behind him. It's possible that the logjam is now over.

Yeah, we don’t know for sure how he will be as a pass rusher. I suspect he’ll do pretty well in that role but of course, we won’t know until we see it.

What we do know is that Quinn specifically stated (without hesitation) that Odighizuwa was brought in to be a 3-tech. So, I fully expect him to play there a lot, if not exclusively.

I do think he could play the 34 DE role (which he did in college) but I’m not convinced that he’ll play much there. I know that Urban is going to play the “big end” in a lot of the “34 look” units… which leaves only the NT and the 3T for Odighizuwa, assuming he doesn’t play LEO.

Of course the majority of the time, the defense will be in as 4 man front with DLaw and Gregory as the ends… which will again leave the NT (1-tech) and the 3-tech for Osa.

So, in the approximately 30-40% of the time spent in the “34 look” defense, unless they sit Urban a good bit and play Odighizuwa at Big End… I really don’t see the rookie playing much else than the 3.

As always, I could be wrong though.
