Prediction:

Tyron Smith reclaims his title as the best LT in the game.
All-Pro season, without even begging for votes on social media.

Not sure why anyone would want anything but that for him.
I've always been a fan of big #77.

Smiths been a geat player for the Cowboys but 10 years is a long time in this league. He has battled some injuries and been a real warrior. What concerns me about him is when you have back problems and neck problems to me that signals the beginning of the end even if you have surgery. He is a bargain this season but will count 17.5 mil against the cap in 2022 and 2023. Its time for Dallas to start searching for his replacement. I hope he has a great season but I hope Jerry doesnt restructure his contract again.

Well, we'll just have to wait and see there. If he plays a full season and doesn't have neck/back issues then odds are the surgery fixed it for good*. If he stays healthy, I think restructuring with extension should be in the cards.
Those cap hits are fine for an great LT, which Smith is till further notice.
I think we would all love a young cheap LT that is a consistently good player but they don't come out too often and when they do they cost a high draft pick.

I'm a skeptic...back etc will be fine, and then someone rolls up on his ankle or knee a few games in and here we go again...he doesn't play a position that is easy on his body unfortunately. He is one of my all times on this team, but I have no faith
Thank goodness he doesn't have to tackle....except for when he holds.

Despite what some may say about Tyron, the man played hurt on Jerrys call.
He finally was allowed to have a surgery thats been bothering him and problematic for years.
Watch this future HOF LT live up to every word he said.
When Tyron speaks I listen.
So Jerry forced his HOF LT to play hurt? Tyron has no say in his own medical treatment?

I always thought Fred would come back too.

Fredbeard is a different story.. A misstep in his treatment or regimen could actually kill him. Tyron was "only" risking paralysis! LOL! In all seriousness surgery can't fix Guillen-Barre.. but it can alleviate neck pain. I have said since they shut Tyron down that I thought getting the neck thing fixed would fix a lot of what ailed him. No we won't know if it took care of it 100% until the season starts but there has been hundreds if not thousands or athletes who have had neck and back surgery who made it most if not all the way back. If we get 2-3 more years of peak Tyron I would be ecstatic. I was happy to hear him say he wants to play until they rip the jersey off his back. That's the attitude you have to have to play football. It's a game that hurts... sometimes it hurts a LOT. If you don't love it you focus on the pain .. and you're off doing another job shortly. If you love it you don't feel the pain. You just revel in the competition. Hearing Tyron talk of late he's clearly one who loves the game. Hell up until this year he hadn't spoken 10 words a season to the media. The joy in his eyes and on his face being back whole is undeniable.. DEs rushing from his side are in trouble. Their only chance is going to be the NBA flop where you throw up your hands, scream and act like you're being fouled. It got pretty pathetic the last few years because refs were falling for it about once every other game.. Tyron would put his man on roller skates and the defender would do the "Lebron" and draw the flag. Disgusting.

The head and the heart want to play but at some point age will take it's toll. LT's lose a step, teams lose QB's.

I am sure he's heard and seen all of the guessing about his health and counters that with "until the wheels fall off" but retirement, for the sake of the team, should come before that.

He's a favorite of the Jones family as they helped him out with his own family issues and he's diehard loyal to them but they need to be objective when the time comes and that time will come before Big Smitty wants it to.

I don't know who to believe but by most accounts Tyron was the one who resisted getting the surgery for two or three years. Remember he had seen the Demarcus Ware saga towards the end of his career in Dallas and most will recall there was a lot of questions from all sides over how Ware's neck woes were handled. I also think people fail to understand the warrior mentality these guys operate under. Many of them see surgery as giving in to pain, weakness and their own mortality. Tyron is simply one of those guys who valued toughness and felt like he needed to play through pain. Nothing is "broken" so just deal with pain and get out there. Sometimes that backfires and they make things worse..

Maybe Tyron goes from likely Hall of Famer to a slam dunk first ballot with a couple of championships under his belt over the next five years.

It's that time of year folks!!

I dont know a lot about GBS, but had a co-worker who had it, recovered and went back to being a fireman. I thought it was something you could eventually get past, but of course everyone is different and Tfred was in the unique position of having to be an elite athlete. There's just no room for physical limitations in his line of work, and I think he came to the realization he didn't want to be 85% of what he was before. He played at such an elite level I can understand not wanting to tarnish your accomplishments by being limited with something you can't work your way past.

I was only half kidding about Guillen Barre Syndrome killing you. In its worst form it can cause a complete shutdown of the central nervous system which can include shutting down your heart and other vital organs. I'm sure that level is rare but I can't imagine being in 70 car wrecks 18-20 Sunday's a year helps in any way. You're dead on about the impact of being only 85% at his job. Peak Frederick could go belly to belly with any NT or DT in the league.. 85% Frederick gets steamrolled by the top tier and can only hold his own against middle of the pack guys and lower. I can't imagine wanting to deal with that for the next 6-7 years after being no worse than the 3rd best center in the game his entire career.

Thats about right, Tyron signed the term and Jerry honored the obligation to make Tyron never ever worry about having to pay a bill again for this rest of his life and grand children.
Tyron made a deal with Jerry many years ago.
They let Tyron know when to do the surgery.

There's no proof of that. Just fan speculation.

Yeah you're going to have a hard time selling me on the notion that any athlete is arguing FOR getting any area of their bodies cut open. That argument flies in the face of everything we know not only about athletes in general but ESPECIALLY about Tyron Smith. I think Tyron fell in a rut where he played through the pain all season, considered surgery in the offseason but invariably felt better once he stopped slamming into 300 pound men every Sunday and decided "okay I'm better." Having surgery in-season means your season is over.. and no athlete is pounding the table for that. Then there is the delicate nature of neck surgery which comes with the very real possibility that you get it and they tell you you can never play again. Again.. what athlete is fighting with management to be in that position?
