I loved the hype in the 90s because that team was substance more than hype

I hate the hype now because this team is all hype and zero substance

but that’s all we have left as Cowboys fans

just hype

Honestly, the Jones boys will have to earn my trust with results on the field not their typical verbal hype.

Am I excited about the upcoming season? Yes. Do I have some hope? Yes. Do I believe all the stuff being said about how good we are going to be? I will believe it when it happens. Not before.

I'm completely over Cowboys hype as long as Jones Incorporated continue to operate the same way, with Jethro & Son playing fantasy football. It just sounds comical to me now, given how it happens every year and they come up short again and again.

I'm always excited about the start of football season but I'll remain skeptical of the Cowboys until they prove they can get beyond the divisional round. Even as a 1-seed they've flopped and they're the only 1-seed to do that in the 21st century. That they've done it twice makes it even worse.

Ya know, this hype thing is nothing new. The main reason so many players hated the Cowboys back in the 60's/70's was this coverage they got. It was really hard to explain but this team has always had that glitz and glamour thing going on, they should have been in LA.

I can remember the first time I saw them on TV and then my first game at the Cotton Bowl, they were not a good team but there was something about them. I think the uniform had something to do with it and the name. Man, what young boy back then didn't want to be a cowboy? They were our heroes and larger than life.

I've learned to take what Jerry and Stephen say with a grain of salt. There have been far too many instances when they've told outright lies to serve their purpose of keeping the ticket sales pouring in. Usually, the truth comes to be known, sadly, when it's far too late to set things right. Following one's own eyes is be best way to get a true picture of what to anticipate. Hopes and realities are often very different things, as the truth finally prevails.

We all know the NFL is a business first, and a sport second. I enjoy football very much, especially the Cowboys. But I have become increasingly weary of all the hype and hoopla that surrounds my favorite team, especially this time of year.

Here’s a typical definition of HYPE: to promote or publicize (a product or idea) intensively, often exaggerating its importance.

So hype in regard to the Cowboys can be to intensively publicize (often exaggerating) how good the product is going to be in advance of it happening. That sounds like the last quarter century to me. And by the way, I have no problem with any fan who does buy the hype.

Do I enjoy “Cowboys hype”? Honestly, sometimes I do. Sometimes the fan in me wants to believe every good possibility about a certain player or the team as a whole. Other times, especially the last decade, I get sick of all the hype from the leadership of this franchise that hasn’t come close to living up to the “secret sauce” comments about how good we are going to be. Honestly, the Jones boys will have to earn my trust with results on the field not their typical verbal hype.

What stuff have you read about how good we can be? I havent read anything. Most stuff from the pundits seem conservative to me.

Gotta admit it was good branding. The sheriff star cowboy link was a good choice. Doubt they'd be as popular with a (no offense OSU) Pistol Pete type guy or cowboy hat thing on their helmets.

Schramm was the visionary, he set the wheels in motion and began setting up the largest regional radio network in the country and went wall to wall in Mexico and started that well before the team arrived. He brought the Cheerleaders out and embraced and cultivated America's Team and Landry didn't like any of it but Tex knew, he knew branding before the term was applied. He built something more than just a football team.

I am surprised that when Six Flags came on the scene, he didn't talk them into the first professional sports franchise theme park, would have made sense. Can you imagine the Hail Mary ride?

I've come to enjoy us being the under dog, because we always seem to **** the bed when we are overly hyped.

Nah. Not a hype guy. Not even much of a regular season guy at this stage.

Respect is earned in the playoffs.

The hype can be interesting as long as you take it for what it is. For example, it being reported that Elliott is in great shape and looking faster, cutting sharper. That's great to hear, but doesn't really mean that much in regards to play.

However, it does produce some hope that he can take what's being observed about him and get back to being the type of back he was drafted and paid to be.

The hype produces the hope. Just like if he was being reported that he was out of shape and looked slow, we would have little hope for him.
