what in his skillset makes you think this?
What are you asking me? What in his skillset will get him 5-7 sacks this year? Or what in his skill set will prevent him from being in the sack leader race at the end of the year.

I'll answer both of them. Production. If he has the skills to be in the top 3 of all DEs in sacks this season then good for him. I would argue he's had these skills all along and never produced. He's never produced at a level you're predicting. In fact he's never been close. He doesn't impact games at the rate you're predicting. He's a solid player but he's not an all pro. He's good but if he lives up to your prediction he'll have to get 13-15 sacks to be in the top 3. I realistically don't see that happening. If we get 5 or 6 sacks out of him he's playing well. Having skills is one thing, being consistent and producing is another. He hasn't shown consistency or production to put up the numbers you're predicting.

But hey if he does I'm all for it cuz that'll mean the defense is making plays. So I'm rooting for him big time but just don't see him being in the top 3 in sacks for the whole league. But if he does I will be more than happy to say you are right and I was wrong cuz that's the type of problem I want to have out of this defense. Too many playmakers to pay them all would be a welcomed problem after last years dumpster fire.

Tanks out year on his contract is next year. He also turns 30. Unless something gets done there I don’t see how they can justify paying that contract.

Another reason Parsons was big on their board. They can go 3-4 without Tank and Still do 4-3 and have pass rushers if they keep Gregory and/or draft.

if Gregory does his thing this year I like his chances of staying more than Tanks. Tanks a player but almost $30 for next year.

Top defensive player in the draft, immediately makes our team better, better instincts and solid tackler.

Ok now your turn. What has Gregory showed you that he will get 13.5 - 15 sacks next season. His whole career he has 10 sacks.

I'm not saying he's a bust or a scrub. I feel he has talent but not enough talent or skills to get 13-15 sacks this year. I hope he does but I would be ecstatic if he got 6-8 sacks this year. But again hopefully I'm wrong and you're right cuz if he does produce 13-15 sacks with DLaw on the other end we have a defense that can take us far in the playoffs. So I'm rooting for him and hoping you're right.

I would love to see RG get enough sacks, QB pressures or anything that could justify Dallas letting Tank and his salary go and investing in RG but with a more reasonable contract than DLaw.

pretense=simulation

I said, I think he is going to have a massive year, and I set the "pretense" of the thread as him being top 3 in sacks, to look at it from a contractual point of view at the extreme of him having a best in the league type scenario and the cowboys being able to sign him. And to how having 2 high price free agents will impact other signings on the team. Because the LDE's are more rare, and having one who excels at pass rush is valuable, and we are paying a RDE

But as to what you asked, I think he has the skillset to get those sacks. He can beat left tackles with speed, moves, reach, amazing bend, and he has some power (might be because of reach and leverage). He plays the run well, and has speed to chase. We will see, but I never said he "would" have those sacks, even though I think he is capable.

I think with out a doubt he has shown that he can have a massive year. A full offseason coming off of a nice amount of continious games from last year, suspension issues behind him, and I think a coordinator who will get the best out of him.

We worry about everything here, no. There ought to be a Worry Zone so every week we can list our biggest worries and who is at fault.

I agree with you. I think he's going to have a monster year and price himself out of Stephen's price range. I don't agree he'll be a top 3 sack guy in the whole league. Everything else I agree with you on besides the post when you said he'll be in the top 3. Last year's top 3 sack guys was 13.5 to 15 sacks. I think a monster year for RG is 8 sacks. In comparison DLaw got 6 or so sacks last year and RG got 3.5.

It is splitting hairs I guess, but I did not say he would be top 3. I said the pretense of the thread is that he is top 3, which means, base the 1.2.3.4 on having to pay him top dollar. I do think it is within his scope of possibilities.
