I don’t think there is another team in the league that deals with troubled players and gives them second chances like the Cowboys. With the rule changes, there might be a team that would give Gregory a chance, but that is far from being a sure thing. Where was these teams the last few years when the man was having mental issues? The fact is that Jerry stuck by Gregory when nobody else was there. I would hope that Gregory appreciates that and would stick with the Cowboys as long as they are offering him a reasonable contract. If money is his only concern and he has no appreciation and loyalty for the Cowboys, he should go elsewhere. This is what I mean about narrative with no basis. A convenient one to hope for a player getting less. The reason Gregory is still here is because he's been cheap and has potential. Other teams would have stuck with him too to see if they can get a return on their investment for the potential production. Business. Same for teams taking a flyer on a guy that another team gave up on. Even if we don't sign him, Gregory will get a shot someplace else next season. So we're not the only place in the world he can find work.
I think he should get payed off of his performance this season. If they offer him a contract now, it should include incentives that pays him based on his level of play. Jazzcat may be on to something . They could pay Gregory out of DLaw’s money. DLaw sure hasn’t played up to the level to deserve his contract.Where do you slot him for a contract? That is going to be the biggest problem.
He came into the league projected to be similar to Von Miller.
The numbers say he's nothing like Von Miller.
Nothing like Lawrence, drafted on year prior.
Nothing like Aldon Smith who was drafted in 2011.
Who is he most like?
Or do you plan on paying him based on what he could have done had he been on the field?

I had planned to wait until we got some comparisons, but you make a good point. So....
As close as I can figure Gregory is Dion Jordan.
All the talent in the world, Miami traded up with Oakland to acquire Jordan as the third overall pick in 2013. He signed four years, $20 Million.
Miami got 26 games, 1 start, 39 tackles, 7 assists, and 3 sacks.
Then Jordan is suspended for 2015.
He didn't play in 2016.
He comes back in 2017, signed with Seattle.
He plays 5 games, starts 0, has 10 tackles, 4 sacks.
In 2019 he is suspended for Adderall. He claims he's taking it for ADHD but his exemption has expired.
He signs with Oakland and immediately goes on the suspended list to finish his 10 game suspension. He plays 7 games, 0 starts, with 2 sacks.
Signs with the 49ers last year. Plays 13 games, starts 1, has 11 tackles, and 3 sacks.
He's a free agent.
Except for the Cowboys that would likely be the way Gregory's career reads.
Now do you throw $20 Million at someone who has started 5 games out of 63, with 82 tackles and 13.5 sacks?
The book on Gregory reads 38 games, 1 start, 49 tackles and 10.5 sacks for his career.
To be fair, when he was drafted 2013, some felt he was the perfect player for Dan Quinn's Atlanta defense as the LEO.

Wow, that's a lot of teams kicking the tires on a former 1st Round talent. And some say Gregory wouldn't have had a job if the Cowboys didn't "stick by him" (by having cheap control and not having to pay him)? Hogwash.
Your choice.
You are more than welcome to do some research, find a comparable player, and state why Gregory should have a truck rolled up to his front door.
When Jordan came back in 2017, he signed for $640,000.
In 2018 he resigned with Seattle for $1.9 million.
Oakland signed him in 2019 for $910,000.
The 49ers paid $802,000.
Of course, these teams aren't owned by Jerry Jones and don't work off the idea, "the more you pay, the better they play."
If Jordan plays this year, it will be on the cheap and likely due to some team in need.
Like I said, your choice.
I ain't gonna kid you, it would be fun seeing how anyone would validate paying a player starter money who has only started ONE game since 2015.
Being unemployed doesn’t pay bills either. Dallas was the only team in the league that would have stuck by Gregory through all of his problems. Jerry has a soft spot for players with problems. Gregory couldn’t have held a job as a people greeter at Wal-Mart these last few years. They give drug test too. Dallas should make him a reasonable offer and he should be willing to take it. Without Jerry, the guy would have never had another chance to play pro football or rake in the money that NFL players makes.
I never mentioned a low ball offer. I have repeatedly said a reasonable contract should be offered. You can dismiss the second and even third chances that Jerry has given players over the years, but former players praise Jerry for being more than just a owner and businessman. It seems like the ideal of loyalty and appreciation are not high on your list admirable traits, which is totally forgotten in much of today’s society. I guess anything other being greedy and wanting every penny possible is considered as being an “aww shucks” situation. Football is a business, but a reasonable contract that is beneficial to both parties should not be off the table.Gregory is what was thought to be a 1st Round pick before his weed issues surfaced. Unless he blows out a knee or looks completely inept one season after looking serviceable it's all but a sure thing someone will kick the tires next year. Nice romanticization, but Jerry was the drafting GM who wanted return on a bargain investment that could pay off exceptionally well. All GMs would want that and have incentive to wait it out. We had his rights and didn't have to pay him when suspended. Again, cheap, control, and potential. Many other teams would have done that. Add in that we've been anemic as far as pass rush goes so that's even more incentive to see if it can pay off. That's not "good ol' Cowboys," that's business planning.
So you can create any "aww shucks" story you want that says Gregory should be beholden to the organization (or any piker fans) and leave money on the table but at the end of the year it'll be business planning for him as well and rightfully so. Both can be true in that he can show appreciation to the Cowboys organization and also bolt for the highest offer he receives. Then we'll see that it's not really about appreciation for you as you call him greedy and ungrateful for not allowing himself to be taken advantage of by a low ball offer, but about wanting players to get less, hence your type of hope posting. This is why "appreciation" and "loyalty" never surface when a player gets cut. See, then its "just business." But when players receive these character assassinations (which is all piker fans have on them), I'm sure they wipe their tears with $20 bills. Lol.
Maybe expectations are higher because he will play more snaps this season than all the other seasons combined.I'm not feeling the RG vibe. He has 10.5 sacks since 2015. 2017 and 2019 he didn't play. Last year he posted 3.5 sacks. I feel discussion about resigning him is premature. If he were to leave today I'm pretty sure we can recover from losing his 3.5 sacks.
I don't understand how in 5 years he's had 10.5 sacks but this year he's projected to get 10 sacks. What has he done in the offseason to make the jump from 3.5 sacks to 10+ sacks?
That makes sense. I'm hoping he lives up to expectations.Maybe expectations are higher because he will play more snaps this season than all the other seasons combined.
