Why Do New Draft Picks Say We Are a Marquee Franchise?

What do we expect them to say, newly picked to join the team and not actually on it yet?

I think marquee in the way they're using it does fit. How many 6 win teams and 8 before that are getting maxed out in prime time games?

Marque refers more to the attraction level than the accomplishment level.
This.

Recent draft picks weren’t born the last time we won a Super Bowl. 25 years is an entire generation.

Which says nothing about how much exposure the team gets. They get multiple primetime games every single year regardless of success. Also, as I pointed out there were some good seasons when recent draft picks were children and teenagers. 2007, 2009, 2014, and 2016.

Because we're the only team that can live off the fumes of past glory like we've enjoy the sweet smell of Super Bowl success as if it were yesterday.

You have to give him credit for the 13 and 3 seasons as well as the mediocre seasons.
He deserves no credit for anything the last quarter century except failure. A 13-3 season (all 2 of them, in 26 years) that ends in a divisional playoff round exit is not success. Jimmy Johnson got us there, the Landry/Schramm era got us there, year after year.

The OP is actually right about many things. Unfortunately, it hasn’t mattered thus far.

There was a time in Cowboys history where the lack of success on the field took a hit on revenue, etc. But not this era. It’s frikin unbelievable. And it’s allowed our frikin owner to continue his ways.
The OP's opinion about "many things" may line up with your own Jerry Jones hating philosophy but that doesn't make it right.

You focus exclusively on the win loss record

The NFL is not in the win loss business, except for the wins and losses *of* the business

The NFL is entertainment and the Cowboys are the NFL’s crown jewel. Just look at the ratings and the schedule

What team is playing against Tom Brady and the defending Super Bowl champs?

Hint, they didn’t make the playoffs and have a star on their helmet

wow when I said fans only care about the bottom line (I.e., deep playoff runs), I never accounted for the causal Cowboys fan who is wowed and dazzled by most profitable, biggest stadium, and most prime time games kind of fan. I’d rather have a deep playoff run and limited prime time games but I only care about the Cowboys winning. Well, we’re all fans here so to each his own.

It ain’t hatin’ if the facts tell the story. Please see playoff success the past 25 years. I’m just telling the truth. Sorry if the truth offends you.

Yes, yes the truth. Most valuable sports franchise in the world. One of the most winningest NFL teams of all time, including 5 Super Bowl titles. Holds the NFL attendance record season after season. The Networks love to air Cowboys games because the ratings are always high. The truth tells the story. I'm so glad we can agree on something. :D

Has Jerry not given the fans who spend money on tickets and watch the Cowboys on tv exactly what they wanted? Pay Lawrence the fans said. Jerry did. Pay Dak they screamed in a hissy fit. Jerry paid. Pay Elliott the cried. Jerry paid. Same with Emmitt and Aikman and Romo and on and on. The money spending fans want to see their stars.

Fans screamed ‘pay da man’ when it came to Dak, Lawrence, Elliott, Jaylon, and others. Jerry paid marquee prices so the fans would have their stars to see even though many were just mediocre talents. Would have been a fan insurrection if Jerry didn’t pay.

The paying fans got what they wanted. I am not a paying fan. I spend $0 on the Cowboys. We all have to watch these mediocre talents every week and hope.
We’re all paying fans either directly or indirectly .

We have advanced past the first round in the playoffs three times in 25 years so why do new draft picks act so excited to go to a losing franchise with 25 years of playoff irrelevancy? It’s like being drafted by the Lions or Bengals except we have five super bowl wins a quarter of a century ago.

I always find it amusing watching people who have zero experience or inside information questioning those with experience and inside knowledge.

Watching you then claim that someone else's minds was already made up was delicious irony. Thank you.

Why do some think the Cowboys aren't Marquee? Winning has nothing to do with being Marquee. Fans seem to forget that the NFL and Dallas Cowboys are in the business to make money. The players are in it to make money. Sucks to be a fan.

You really do not understand how it works? Our team for many years was the standard of being winners. Players who played for us went on to have huge careers after football..Don Meredith, Troy Aikman and now Romo. Coaches such as Dan Reeves and Mike Ditka and Jimmy Johnson earned fortunes playing and coaching becuz they were Cowboys. Many others are announcers on TV and radio like Spears and Moose Johnson.. Any player in his right mind would want to be a Cowboy. If they like money and fame. Being a famous Cowboy is like being a war hero only better. You get to live to enjoy your success.Nice.

That was true for decades. Not sure if we hold that level of notoriety anymore.

Yes it is exciting to play for the Cowboys, pro sports most indestructible brand. It will guarantee the most prime time games, more visibility, and for some players, better endorsements. But my point is no matter what words are used (“marquee franchise”, “elite franchise”, etc.) it is not warranted based on the past 25 seasons. I have an in-depth knowledge and appreciation of the Cowboys proud history and I will always love the Cowboys but excuse me if it pains me to watch 25 seasons that never had to be mismanaged this way.
