yeah, just what Dallas needs, an over 30 year old corner who wants a new contract extension...NO THANKS
The second part is the most important here. He’s holding out being he wants to be paid like a defensive MVP should. If you traded for and signed Gilmore, you’d have…
a top 5 paid RB
A top 5 paid WR
A top 5 paid Guard
A top 5 paid quarterback
A top 5 paid defensive end
A top 5 paid interior linebacker
And now a top 5 paid cornerback
At some point this is going to carve into your ability to build depth around the team. Dallas may be able to technically afford him, but they can’t really afford to do it. Know what I mean?
Progress stopper.
Chronic hip issue? Oooooooh! Wonder what’s more attractive to Jerry’s chance-taking nature, a player with injury concerns or one with behavioral issues?I would do it for a 4th rounder or lower only. Read somewhere Gilmore may have a chronic hip issue?
I know we have a glutton at CB at the moment, but not a solid option (that we currently know of) opposite Diggs. Gilmore would instantly solidify our starting CB’s … and NE wants to shop him. He should have at least 2 good years left in him. And he is a MUCH better option than Richard Sherman. I was pushing for this before the draft and so was Mike Fisher — and he still is.
On another note, there is something about Kelvin Joseph that I just don’t trust yet. Can’t put my finger on it, but I wouldn’t put too much hope in him at the moment. He has the skill set, but only time will tell if he has the mental focus needed for us to trust him completely.
With Gilmore, here’s how I would see our secondary shaping up:
I know I only have 3 safeties listed, but don’t forget - Keanu Neal could play safety in a pinch.
- S. Gilmore (CB)
- T. Diggs (CB)
- A. Brown (CB)
- J. Lewis (CB)
- CJ Goodwin (Special teams)
- N. Wright (CB)
- K. Joseph (CB)
- I. Mukuamu (S)
- D. Wilson (S)
- D. Kazee (S)
and how much should we pay for a CB that at best has 2 good years left? and then pay him his salary demands on top of that.....I know we have a glutton at CB at the moment, but not a solid option (that we currently know of) opposite Diggs. We draft well all the time. Constantly.
How's-a you gonna pay for all this, eh?
Restructuring Dak, Jaylon, Elliott, and Lawrence. Those 4 will be here for the next 10 years. Why not?
That's a joke, right?
