Anyone watching "War of the Worlds" on EPIX? It's an updated version of the original and it looks like the "Martians" are not like in the book and original movie. The show is really well done I think. They keep the suspense up pretty much all the time so you get a good sense of what it would be like to be constantly under the threat of death - at least as much as you can get that feeling from a TV program. But in season 2 we learn more about the "aliens" and I get the feeling this is heading in a bad direction. If I am right then the show will wind up with a disappointing ending, and frankly the entire story will make no sense. Does anyone else get the same feeling?

I started watching and have gotten through the first two episodes but I’m struggling with the pacing and what I feel is a small scope. Is it really worth going back to?

Yes, the common complaint is the pace in season one is slow. They reveal very little new information every week so it seems to drag on. Season two starts 5 months after season one ended so there is a lot of change in the first two episodes. As I said, I am sensing where this is going and if I am right then the story will be facing a lot of contradictions and ideas that will not make much sense. I don't want to give away too much but I get the feeling the earthlings are going to be the bad guys in this one. All I will say is that it will take a lot of justification to kill billions of people.

I watched the second episode of Loki. I find the show interesting, while setting the next arc of the MCU.
This week they revealed The Variant is Lady Loki and that Mobius M. Mobius does not respect wood...

The Devil Below - Netflix... Will Patton in it. Meh. Could have been better but kind of interesting. Just not great. The idea is that a mine and mining town shuts down after what they say was an undergrown disaster where the mine is burning underground and continues to burn...apparently this has happened in a few cases. Well there are some geologist that want to go and look in the mine/caves as they have reason to believe some other scenarios. Turns out something else shut down the mine and the town around it. Similar to some other movies like the descent where there are other life in the underground.

Above - Netflix ...Some kind of event basically cause an EMP that cause most electrical items to go out. Some older vehicles can run if they have the batteries swapped. The other issue is that since it happened nobody can sleep.
And they talk about how lack of sleep will cause mental issues and eventually physical issues that can kill someone. There is one girl who can sleep. Now they need to see why and find a cure. The idea was kind of decent but it was predictable.

Season 2 of Black Summer on Netflix released today. If you didn't watch season 1 it's a zombie series. I enjoyed it.

Coincidentally, on one of those "Mystery of the Abandoned" shows just a day or 2 ago they showed a Pennsylvania town that was abandoned because the coal mines under the town caught fire are have been burning for years.

Above sounds interesting. There are multiple ways an EMP can be generated including by our sun. I have considered lining my shed, where I store my generator, with metal screening to turn it into a Faraday cage. Am I crazy?

Yes, but not because of that.

The best delivered line in the series thus far (in my opinion):

"It's... not... about... you."

In the books, Lady Loki was Lady Sif possessed by Loki. I am guessing this multiverse version of Lady Loki has zero connection with Lady Sif as far as looks are concerned since this actress is NOT Jaimie Alexander. Then again, Loki can look like anyone so who knows?

I am loving it. The first two episodes have been smartly written. The multiverse angle is being developed for the audience very slowly, so I know the pacing will not appeal to everyone. These Disney+ series are essential components of the greater MCU, thus context is key for the movies/series that follow.

Good stuff. I hope the quality level remains high. If it does falter, it will not be due to Tom Hiddleston's performance. He has been wicked good playing the character.

I don't think this counts as a spoiler, but I suppose the answer might: Is it a coincidence that the agent's (Wilson's) name is Mobius? Is there a connection between that and the fact that Stark used an "inverted Mobius Strip" dimension to time travel?

I would say there is no connection for two reasons I can think of. First, the Mr. Mobius character and the TVA are Marvel creations from the late 1980s/early 1990s. In my opinion, there would be a reverse coincidence if the character's name and Stark's time perfection tech were the connection.

Second, Mobius Strip was a mathematics discovery from the mid 1800s. Science fiction writers to theoretical physicists have imagined tons of applications for the concept ever since. If anything, I believe Agent Mobius name and Stark's invention are only a happy coincidence.

What I didn't get in the movie was the term "inverted". How could a mobius strip be inverted? There's only one side, and no directional relationship....That said, I didn't realize the TVA was already part of the MCU. I thought it was created specifically for this show. It's just an odd coincidence then, that "Mobius" is used in connection with two time related concepts in the MCU....Thanks for the info!

I’m now thinking that this new female character is the Enchantress and not a female Loki.

And I’m smelling a rat behind this TVA, and the whole thing being about an attempt to control time and the multiverse for someone’s particular best interests.

Never trust anyone you ‘can’t see’.

Just finished season 2 of Marco Polo on Netflix and loved it! I'm reading Conn Iggulden's Conqueror series on Genghis Khan right now and was already really into the Mongolian Khan scene when I stumbled on this. The series focuses more on Kublai Khan but is done really well. Little bit of Kung **, little bit of historical fiction, little bit of sexy Asian women. You can't go wrong with it and season 3 premiers 06/25/21. I highly recommend it as well as the Conqueror series if anybody needs something new to read.

So, I tried watching this Netflix "Fresh, Fried and Crispy" and it's the most annoying food show I have ever seen with the most annoying and unfunny pig mouthed host. The guy is some YouTube star and he is awful and a real pig. -1/10

However, the food doc about the origins of a lot of our dishes from Africa, like Gumbo, is really interesting. I am only one in but plan on watching the whole thing and am fascinated by the effect of French cooking as I am on Vietnamese cooking.

Is Netflix advertising a season 3? I watched that series in 2014 & 2016 and Netflix cancelled it. Can't find anything on IMDb of a 3rd season.

Well I had read that it was but I just checked the source. It was some sort of Hollywood Insider BS and probably not true. Sucks, I was really looking forward to it.

Instead of "Above" did you mean "Awake"?

2 episodes in on "High on the Hog" and this is one of the best docs I have ever seen. I thought it would be about food but it's really more about the slave trade and effect that brought about. Food is the theme that keep coming back to and it's unification effect but I can tell you this I was one of those people that used to take the approach "hey, don't blame me, I wasn't around back then, I didn't own any slaves" but watching these stories unfold, all based on historical factual data makes me a little uneasy in my white skin.

This is not meant to start any race discussion but whether or not you are into food, this is a must watch that I highly recommend. This is having the same effect on me that the opening of "Watchmen" had when I realized that actually happened and why hadn't I ever heard of this before? Why was this purposefully kept from us?

It's not about not being around then or being responsible for any of it but it is about what is truly in our hearts.

I have watched 15 episodes of "Manifest" on Netflix. It is an interesting story about a plane that experiences some unusual turbulence when it suddenly encounters a crazy storm on a flight from Jamaica to NYC.

When the plane arrives the passengers find out that 5 1/2 years have passed and their plane was thought to have crashed and all passengers died in the crash. I have 1 more episode to watch in season 1 and still no clue what happened or why. Some of the passengers experience voices in their heads, saying things like "free them" but the voices never provide any detail, like free who? from where? It would be unfair to rate the show before watching the season finale but I realized a lot of people may not get as far into the show as the 15th episode because the story seems very disjointed. OF COURSE THERE ARE The personal stories of the passengers that interfere with the main plot at times, but it is an important aspect of being gone for 5 1/2 years without explanation. Everyone else moved on with their lives thinking their relatives and friends were dead. Imagine the complications.

Like I said, the main story of "Manifest" is actually pretty interesting. I can see building a story off of it, but the show is 16 episodes and it moves very slowly. We don't see the main antagonist until the 14th episode. We have no idea what is is he/she wants or who is behind the plot. Just a lot of unanswered questions.

There is a season 2, which is only 13 episodes, 3 less than season 1 so I assume it will move a little faster, from a snails pace to a jogging turtle. But I think season 1 should have been no longer than 8-10 episodes moving at a faster pace. Again, watching these shows on Netflix without commercial breaks makes them seem to move a little faster. This show must have been painful to watch on TV when it aired on NBC originally with commercials.

I will give it a 7 out of 10 because the plot idea is pretty cool. But I have seen some great main storylines destroyed by stupid writing before.
