Does anyone Have a sound machine? I have one that helps me sometimes . It's a thunderstorm in the distance. love it. Brook or wind or crickets?
Yep, been using them for years and couldn't even catch a nap without one. I have tinnitus and without my sound machines, no way I could sleep.

I use only the white noise and it has to have a deep sound, not a tinny one. I have two Brookstone's with 16 different sounds and only use that one. I found myself focusing on the other sounds like counting the chirping birds or rolls of distant thunder and the babbling brook babbled too much.

My favorite thing to sleep to was a window AC, that hum was perfect.

Spring and fall we keep the windows open and shut down the A/C and heater. In the summer we will turn A/C down from 79 to 77. Winter, we keep the heat at 66. Vertical fan is right next to the bed running year round, I'll just add an additional blanket during the winter.

Head and of the bed and foot of the bed are both lifted slightly.
77? I'd be sweating bullets and cussing up a storm. I keep mine on 68 if a need a blanket and 69 with just a sheet.

And let me say this, I do not sleep worth a damn so I don't think I have the answer.

I used to be that way but with this new house, 77 feels like 72 in my old house. As long as the A/C triggers throughout the night it feels plenty cool. I am sure as the house settles and the A/C ages, I will have to begin lowering it at night, but if I put it at 72 now, I would need an extra blanket.

Early marriage was nightly fight on night temp. I wanted it 67 she wanted 74. We compromised with Friday and Saturday I got what I wanted while she got what she wanted Sunday thru Thursday. That lasted about a couple of nights when she woke up sick with "sinus" problems. So I get a 16 inch fan that is less than one inch from my face blowing at the top hurricane speed. When I turn over I bring the fan with me.. Temp now after 30 years of marriage is 72 degrees. Not perfect but better.

We have French doors in our bedroom and if we're lucky we can open them a couple of weeks in the spring and a couple of weeks in the fall. Even when the temp is cool it's just so humid it gets sticky, plus in the spring the birds chirping drives me nuts in the early morning.

I prefer it to be cool to cold. I hate and cannot sleep when it's hot. I also, somewhere along my way in life, developed a dependency on white noise. So I prefer to have a fan on. I hate it when it's too quiet.

I'll never forgot the first week in my first bachelor pad I had in my early 20s. It was built in 1964. Had no central AC. That first week I moved in (was summer) I was just tossing and turning with it being so hot. I eventually met this girl and we started dating. She had a friend that had a window AC unit that she said was just sitting in storage and hooked me up with it. I installed that mofo in my window and it was glorious. All my roommates were so jealous. I would walk out of my room just freezing while everybody else was sweating. haha They should have followed suit. Good times! :D

When I came home from the hospital after being born my mom put a fan beside of my crib. She thought that if is was use to some noise then her daily routine would not disturb me. "White Noise" is a must. With out it....I go crazy. I have a fan on my desk at work now and I'm 60.

Good story. My first place I lived in with my now ex-wife had one window unit. I would move that unit room to room depending on what room needing cooling at that time (bedroom/kitchen/living room). I had it set up so it would take me minutes to move the a/c unit to each room. Things we do when we are poor. :)

I can sleep in either dead quiet or any type of noise, as long as it's constant. Sudden, different sounds wake me up instantly, except thunderstorms. (usually) If I'm having trouble falling asleep, I can put on headphones and play classic rock loudly, and I'll usually fall asleep within half an hour.

I also have tinnitus. The very first time I realized it I thought it was my car radio. lol Now it's like an old friend.

I usually sleep with the TV on. I can't lay in the dark in complete silence and just fall asleep, I need to watch something until I'm eased off into dreamland. I have an app that does the rain sounds with thunder, I'll do that on occasion also.
