I did not expect Basham to win this so convincingly. That career high 3.5 sacks last year with the Jets must have really impressed people.

Anae has short arms. I think it more likely he gets cut than being top backup given Quinn's preferences.

Golston will need to massively develop his pass rush repertoire to surpass Basham.

What's it going to be then, eh?

It impressed the great Will McClay and that is all that matters.

Especially considering the competition...

Armstrong......2.5 career sacks (3 years)
Anae...............6 snaps
Golston...........rookie 3rd rounder.
well look at it this way Aldon had 5 sacks last year most of which came in two games..If Basham can get 5 maybe 6 over the entire season but more consistently , doesnt seem like stretch as a backup,,.

I did see Basham a bit on the Jets, ok as a back-up I guess...

The one guy I really dont see anything from is Armstrong - dont see no real pass rushing moves, no bend - not much of anything.

With health we should have 3 good edge rushers and yes, Micah is absolutely going to be one of them in the nickel if he pans out. Trying to keep him out of the discussion makes no sense. So when we ask about a "backup" I'm assuming you are talking about the #4 guy. Who knows. You can throw all of the other guys into the mix but none of them have shown the ability...yet. Completely up for grabs.

I still expect to see an oversized SDE (Osa, Watkins, even Urban) playing 30-40% of the snaps and Gregory playing the rest as a pass rusher.

As far as who’s the backup pass rusher in general…Basham, but by default, not something I feel good about.
