Golston pick was a head scratcher for me. He doesn't do anything great. Plays a strong End decent. But nothing really jumps off the screen. Power, Speed, Rush Moves, Instinct, Size, Athleticism. All decent. Nothing special. I think he would have been a nice add in the later rounds or UDFA.

I try to treat all the rookies in the same light which is, they are green and have much to prove, Golston no different. I don't go into training camp with preconceived notion of what he can or can't do, I want to see it from his play just as I would any of the young guys heading to camp. I wish him the best and look forward to seeing him out there as he proves himself as a player who can help this team or not.

The slotting takes care of everything now. Usually "holdouts" are more about language in contracts. For some reason third rounders are an issue.

I think the last holdout was Joey Bosa. And went like 3 or 4 weeks into the season. Before that it had been a very long time since a rookie tried to pull the hold out for the season deal. I think it was a QB said he would reenter the draft and sit out a year. Can't recall who that was. But an agreement was reached.

This is one of my favorite picks. Yeah I get he is not great at any one thing, but the guy can play football. He just makes plays.
They were watching the film of Daviyon Nixon and this guy kept getting in the way. He is just a football player with a high floor that gives you something to build on.

It's probably offset language.

Teams seem to make a big deal out of that.

I really feel Golston will serve the Cowboys well. He'll provide a good combination of pass rush ability and run stoppage. That's not to take anything away from Randy Gregory and/or Lawrence, though. Actually, I'm expecting both our pass rush and run stoppage to improve considerably in 2021. :)
Hopefully he will be an improvement over Crawford...sadly...I think you will get about the same kind of production this season.

Not the Hawkeye I thought we would take.
I am assuming you are referring to Nixon. This selection is going to sting if Gholston flames out, while Nixon lights the world on fire.

Part of me wonders how much "cap value" factors into draft pick selection. IF we hit on Gholston, it makes Tank somewhat expendable, plus you get four years of cheap labor at DE. I wonder if positional value was factored into this choice, or if this was a "pure talent evaluation" selection. Still another part of the equation is maybe they have a specific role for a player that is yet to be revealed.

Lots of questions presented by a selection like this, and we may be left with years of conjecture in attempting to understand the "why" selections were made.

One of those for certain!
Maybe it was the upside escalator clause?

I can't remember what it was but it was something that most of the teams didn't have a problem with, but for whatever reason San Diego had trouble signing several draft picks because they wanted to buck the trend.

One of the best things the league ever did was the salary based on draft slot thing.

Settled a lot of BS and the system might almost be called fair.

looks a lot like Gallimore but Gallimore better pass rusher, Gholson better against the run but both always seem to have their motor high and nose on the ball..

I can see a good rotation with those two..add in Osi and Big Bo..i mean none look like Donald but they all look solid and can play..

basically what i have seen from the entire season of acquisitions they all seem to compliment each other and can be used in many sub packages..

I he can produce good run stoppage with better pressure and sack production than Crawford did, I'd be satisfied. We'll see.
