Would you sign Shaquem Griffin?

Because he's not his brother?

Shaquem is a nice story but he's been little more than a special teams player in the NFL.

and i keep getting the last names mixed up per his brother the Pro bowl CB Griffin.
i just haven't seen this Griffin play LB in a defense at the NFL level, with his handicap one arm, to determined if he can fit in as a top reserve LB.

and i'd like to have a guy that's more than Justin March that's only per special teams because he totally limits you if he has to
play defenses per injury replacement or rotations.

We have plenty of LBs on the team already, and there is nothing about this guy that suggests he would be as good as what we have.

and what do we already have as reserve LBs ?

Luke Gifford ? ... Justin March ? ...Francis Bernard ?

While I admired his tenacity and his desire to overcome his situation, the truth is, it is extremely difficult - if not impossible - to excel at the highest level of sports and athleticism, particularly in a game like football, and not be at peak performance with all of your faculties. The best athletes are rendered virtually useless by a severe injury to a body part - let alone not having a body part at all.

Something as small as a toe (turf toe injury) robbed Deion Sanders of his elite speed. And I suspect Jaylon Smith's devastating injury is why he hasn't turned out to be the elite player he was projected to be before his injury. I still think it's a mental hurdle he hasn't gotten over yet. You have to be super elite or athletically otherworldly (aka, Emmitt Smith and Lawrence Taylor) to play at a high level with major injuries (that and a shot of Novocaine to deaden the pain).

Anyone who runs/ran track can tell you that you need your hands working in conjunction with your legs to reach maximum speed. Your hands act as pistons and as rudders to speed you up and slow you down.

The physical demands of a game like football require peak physical performance, which is why most of us aren't professional athletes, why women outside of kickers and punters aren't suited to play in the NFL (not sexism but science) and why Shaquem Griffin will have a hard time being a starter in the NFL.

I'm not going to make fun of him because, again, I applaud him taking his dream as far as it would take him, and I would encourage anyone who thinks he/she can to go for it. But, realistically, it has been and is going to be difficult for him to be anything more than a special teams player because of the absence of his hand. And with defenses becoming more limited in how they can tackle offensive players, you need all the advantages you can get.

Sorry, if this offended anyone. I didn't mean to. But I wanted to get to the heart of the matter - as I see it.

My point wasn't that the Cowboys are filled with studs at LB from the top of the depth chart to the bottom (what team is?), it was that most of the LB spots are already filled with players this guy cannot beat out, and there is nothing to suggest he would be an upgrade over the current choices to fill the last spot or two. His 3 years in the NFL have been bottom of the depth chart just like guys we already have.

Smith, LVE, Parsons and Cox are certain to make the team. Neal is apparently going to play LB as well, so that's a 5th guy. How many more do we keep? Maybe one more? Two at the most? What do we know about this guy that suggests he would add something to the group we already have to choose from?

Obviously it wouldn't hurt to look if he signed cheap and isn't guarantee anything beyond training camp, but nothing suggests he would be important to target.

oops i actually forgot that we had Keanu Neal as a backup LB.... My bad

Yeah, I don't think it's real clear exactly what the plan is with him or how it will work out at this point.

Signing this guy wouldn't mean we would keep more LB's on the roster than we would without him, it would just mean there is on extra guy competing for the bottom spot or two on the LB depth chart. If we want him to compete for that bottom spot or two on the depth chart, and he is willing to sign a contract that doesn't guarantee anything other than a chance to compete at training camp, that's fine, but I don't see any evidence that suggests the team should consider him to be particularly important to target.

That, and the mere fact he was on another team's roster last year.
Yep
Must be great if he played for another team
Never mind they let him walk as well as the next team who had him
He’s a great story and it’s admirable what he’s done in life
But he’s not a player who can help this team

That’s what’s ruining our world. Pretty soon no more comedians
Kindness and sensitivity transcend professions.
Besides, insulting others isn't the only way to make people laugh. That's where the creativity of comedians come into play. There's a lot of material out there. Now, you have to be more creative to reach your audience. :)
Besides, I think the world will spin just fine without jokes about the disabled. :)

The NFL's Make A Wish obligation has been filled.
Seattle will receive an unexplained victory at a later date.
That is all.

Blimey! The low achieving Broncs were underwhelmed by shaquem.

I remember you were a huge supporter of drafting him. He is more of a special teamer, just don't think he is worthy of a roster spot.

Yea I was, especially after he ran a 4.4 40.........so much for being a GM (LOL)

That's all it was.

Kind of like that player on our roster now who is only there because of who he is.

Worst. Commissioner. Ever.
