One of the most fun aspects of the off season is looking at the roster and trying to decide whose stock will rise and whose will fall. There will always be surprises.

With that in mind, here is a list of guys I think will emerge as young stars. In other words, these guys’ stock will be on the rise in 2021:

RISERS (emerging stars)
  • Micah Parsons- I expect new DC Dan Quinn to find lots of ways to make the 12th pick in the 2021 draft a real defensive weapon. If he’s healthy all year, Parsons will be our leading tackler and probably the most exciting player to watch on defense. All the disappointed Cowboys fans on draft night are going to have to admit this guy is a beast.
  • Trayvon Diggs- after an up and down rookie season, I think Diggs is going to emerge as potential pro bowl corner. Mentally and physically tough, I’m expecting a breakout season from this guy.
  • Cedee Lamb- after an outstanding rookie season, Lamb can still improve a lot. He had a ton of drops last year. If he improves on that, look out. He may even become the team’s leading receiver. With Cooper and Gallup drawing some attention from defenses, Lamb could become THE guy at WR.
  • Tyler Biadz- He had a decent rookie season in spurts until he got hurt. He’s not yet T- Fred material but if Zack Martin, La’El Collins and Ty Smith are all healthy, Biadz will grow a lot.
  • Michael Gallup- so far, he’s easily been the best part of the 2018 draft. He’s become one of my favorite Cowboys. With Cooper and Lamb drawing attention, Gallup can continue his healthy 15.6 yard per reception average- one of the best in football. He’s going to garner a much bigger contract next year.
  • Hunter Niswander- this dude was a great midseason addition at punter last year. He avg 47.6 yards a punt and had a whopping 10 punts inside the 20. Having a punter with these kind of numbers helps a defense out a ton.
FALLERS (guys that are diminishing in value- hope I’m wrong)
  • Zeke Elliott- the days of Zeke having 25 carries for 150 yards are in the rear view mirror. He will still have some value for sure. But he’s never going to be 2016 Zeke again.
  • Amari Cooper- Coop always has great stats, but he has a bad habit of disappearing in big games. He’s not making $20 mil a year to disappear. He will still be the best route runner in football, but he’s also still carrying those nagging foot and leg injuries that quietly sideline him too often.
  • LVE- that nagging neck injury has robbed a very talented guy from being a top NFL LB. If he were healthy, his speed and tackling ability would make him a stud. But he’s had this neck problem since his Boise State days. That’s troubling.
  • Jaylon Smith- With that contract and his awful performance last year, he certainly has incentive to get back to decent. But I just don’t have any confidence that he still has that in him. He’s a great story of perseverance but I wonder if that story is winding down. This is probably his last hurrah in Big D.
I left a lot of guys off both lists for brevity sake. Some of the bigger names like Dak, Tyron Smith, Zack Martin, etc, are people I hope will return to prominence. We will see.

Who are your risers and fallers?

I can see where this thread is going real quick. Typical Debbie downers will take over about Zeke and Dak.. It already started.

I say Zeke and Dak will be on the rise. Healthy and a healthy OL. Zeke battled through 2 different nagging injuries last season But the haters will not admit that was an issue.
Jaylon and LVE is a wait and see, I really do not know what to expect from them. Just hoping for the best. Same for Conner Williams.

Biadasz on the rise, along with Gregory.
DLaw may fall a bit, but not too much.

I think we will see more on the rise than any players that will fall. It is still a young hungry team. Players such as Crawford are gone, that was holding other players back.

Who are your risers and fallers?

All your fallers sans Cooper had a down 2020, so I actually think the remaining 3 have a better chance to be risers rather than fallers. You'll see a motivated Zeke this year and we often talk about him like he's hit the dreaded age 30 for rbs. He'll have a rebound year that will leave many second guessing there opinion aftet last year.

Drops:

1. Dak will drop simply because there is absolutely no way he is able to perform up to that contract or up to the hype that Cowboy fans have given him coming into this year. He could have a good season, but still drop. When you get paid his money and have his hype MVPs and Super Bowls are expected and I don't see either of those happening this year.

2. Cooper because Lamb is going to emerge and be an even bigger threat this year. Cooper will still be soild, but not put up the same numbers we're accustomed to from him.

3. LVE. He has just not improved one single bit from his rookie season and I don't believe he will ever be fully healthy enough to improve to where we once thought he could be.

4. Jayon. I believe we have seen the best from him and he has reached his ceiling as an NFL player.

Risers:

1. Jarwin is on his way to being a top 10 TE this year.

2. I believe Zeke will be better. He'll never be rookie Zeke again, but he will be much improved from last years Zeke. I believe we can get 1,400 yards out of him again.

3. Diggs. I think Diggs has a lot of potential and he was one of the very few bright spots on this horrible defense.

4. Gallimore. I liked him last year and like Diggs he was a bright spot. I expect him to be even better.

I can't predict either side. Every player on the D got what they wanted, a new DC but not just that, he's a players' DC.

Prescott returns as do the 3 OL and Elliott looked quicker in the videos from the OTA's and workouts.

I think most of the fall part has to do with injuries. How is Vander Esch's neck, is Smith's foot as good as it's gonna get and can Cooper stay close to 100% all season long?

I think the player most on the bubble is Conner Williams. It is time to fish or cut bait with him.

Useless thread. We have not seen any play yet. You would be shooting in the dark here. Or is this just a Fav thread. Sort of tactless unless you want to consider college only. Had enough bragging. Want real football.

Biggest drop off - Dak. He has no incentive to excel now. You'll see a big drop off like Zeke after he got paid.
Daks injury is going to change his game. Doubtful he runs much at all he needs to last the whole year this year. It's our only chance. We know this.

Please, point me to the threads that are shooting in the light. Is this the only thread where they're not playing yet?

This time of year is all about conjecture, guessing and speculation and is actually pretty much fun because we have little evidence of anything for this season. Everybody is both right and wrong.

Well Red… You are correct. We’re all guessing here. I still appreciate you taking the time to let me know what you really think, lol. That’s been useful.

Lawrence is such a good player.

He just isn't worth what he is paid and isn't a sack stat guy.

I think he has a lot of good ball left in him but it won't be here. I see him elsewhere in 2022.

Since it's Kool Aid season, I'll say that I feel bad that he may not be here for those last few rings....but he can always hold 2021 dear to him.

Good post. Is Niswander going to make the team?

I have a feeling LVE is going to turn it around this year. I am lukewarm on Trayvon Diggs still. Zeke is in the best shape of his life, or so we are told. Doesn't that mean he will have a big year? I am looking for him to start strong and slow down as the season progresses. If Jaylon move up in a big way in 2021 I will be the most shocked person on the planet. Whatever he had in college, he lost it somewhere along the line and it is not coming back.

LVE is my favorite Cowboy. Who else has a name like Wolf Hunter. Too cool.
