If and when they get to playoffs again, they have to play teams outside the div! the good teams lol outside the div.
they need 6-8 wins outside the div to be a good team.

Now look at the schedule and tell me which 6-8 teams they will beat outside the div lol.

Dallas can count on 3 maybe 4 div wins, but the most would be 6.
6+6 = 12 wins. 4+6= 10 wins

So aside from div games, do you see 6 wins?
If they cant win outside the div, they either wont make playoffs, or they will be one and done.
2021 Cowboys schedule

1: at Buccaneers
2: at Chargers
3: Eagles
4: Panthers
5: Giants
6: at Patriots

8: at Vikings

14: at Washington

I see 6-7 potential wins, outside div, but not sure they can do it. Big maybe.

Other than Bucs and Chiefs I don’t see any team outside the division they shouldn’t have a good chance to beat. Which ones they will beat is just a guess.

What is so tough about the schedule? I am seeing a relatively easy schedule.
I would certainly say the schedule at least very manageable. Only 2 games look to be against teams the Cowboys won’t be expected to compete with.

Panthers
Broncos
Falcons
Pats
Cards
Raiders
Saints

Honestly think we can and probably should win all of those.

Giants x2
Eagles x2
Skins x1

10-12 wins isnt a huge stretch in my overly optimistic opinion.

Always hard to predict upcoming seasons. I will say Panthers, Pats, Broncos, Falcons, Raiders, Cardinals look possible. Maybe the Saints. So I agree 6 ish is possible.

CZ poster Hadenough said in another post and I'm paraphrasing "Every year I predict the Cowboys will beat the poor teams and lose to the good and for the most part I'm right."

I continue to be of that mindset as well.

I think we beat the following outside the division teams in no particular order:

Chargers - should be able to beat them
Panthers - fairly easy opponent for us
Patriots - not sure about this one, but if Cam is starting, I think we will win.
Vikings - not worried about them
Broncos - not worried about them
Falcons - not worried about them
Raiders - easy
Saints - will be hard, but with no Brees, I think we win
Cardinals - I think we will be able to stop Murray better. Plus he gave us bulletin board material recently.

I also think we might beat the Bucs. I'm not confident about that, but I think our defence that is being built will cause issues for Brady because it will be hard for them to prepare for since they don't know what to expect.

The only outside the division team that I think we won't beat is the Chiefs. However, between them and the Bucs and we'll probably split with the WFT and Eagles as usual, I see 13-4.

It's really hard to answer the question
As how good of a defense are we talking?
Realistically we might go from awful to average

Very true. That is the question. How good?

With Dalton and a bad D we won 6 games in a bad NFC East. With Just Dak alone I see about a 4 wins improvement so that gets us to 9 or 10. If the defense can go from bad to average then 11 games would be the low end all the way up to 14 wins.

What rank would you say dAllas new defense will finish the season as

Too tough to call right now. I also dont consider the usual "yardage ranking" as a good ranking. Personally I would look at "run defense" as the most important, then things like turnovers and sacks. They have REALLY focused on fixing the run defense. I think they get into the top 10 for sure on run defense. Barring any major setbacks.

our schedule IS BRUTAL. We will need alot to fall our way to break even or just above even. Oh and we aren't beating Tom Brady opening day. He lives to hurt the Cowboys. Until its proven otherwise, thats a loss.Chargers in week 2 on the road is no cup walk. They are on the rise fast. Put it like this, we MUST start the season hot as a firecracker running on all 8 cylinders or it could be an ugly start to the year.Teams all play their very best ball against us and we better understand this.

Just for the record this was the popular sentiment in 2016 (that they were screwed and destined for another mediocre to bad season).

Any fool can say that. LOL

Thats pretty much what happens by an large with most teams. Harder to beat the good teams, easier to beat the bad teams.

The exercise is to predict what EACH different team will do from year to year.

13-3, 9-7, 10-6, 8-8, 6-10

We can pretty much see a downward trend based on the deteriorating condition of both the Oline and the defense. Injuries play the biggest role in what happens from year to year.

I think the Oline has stabilized and the defense is finally heading back up. Injuries again will play a big part.

The passing game has gotten much much better over the last few years. Unfortunately, Dak went down early last year so we didnt get to see the whole year there. We will see that THIS year.

It’s the NFL. Every game will be a war. I’ve been watching NFL games for 57 years. If there’s anything that’s clear it’s this: We can beat anyone- and lose to anyone as well. And none of us know which it will be.
