Just curious if anyone out there actually met Jerry Jones or Stephen in person. How did it happen? Just a chance meeting? A charity or football event? Business meeting?

What was he like?

I thought someone mentioned in some thread that he met Jerry. Not sure who it was.

I have not met either of them.

I'd actually like to have a drink with Jerry. You just know he's got some great stories.

I couldn't care less about meeting Stephen.

I have a funny story. Back in the mid 90’s, the Cowboys’ web site was just horrible. It was always down, always crashing. So I looked up the site on WhoIs to find the contact information of someone and guess whose name was on the domain contact? Jerry freaking Jones. Talk about something that would never happen in 2021.

So I emailed him and they responded! I was contacted by, I want to say Derek Eagleton but it might have been someone else, and below in the headers I saw that the email was forwarded by Jerry Jones. It turns out though that it wasn’t Jerry senior, it was Jerry Jones junior. Anyway we arranged a phone call and I tried to convince them to hire me to fix it but all they wanted to understand were the problems and how to fix it.

The story doesn’t end there. So in 1999 (I think), the team was terrible and Aikman was in his final years. I decided to email Jerry senior directly - I could figure out his email address based on the naming convention. I wish I had a copy of it somewhere but I don’t. The email said that the team is falling apart and Aikman needs a weapon, please trade for Joey Galloway even if it takes two #1s!

He didn’t respond, but the trade happened! I always wonder if I in some small way planted that in his head or if based on my email he thought it was a good idea in order to appease the fans. If I ever do meet him some day, I’m going to ask!!

I met Jerrah after Our last SB in '96. He was a much younger man then. I was working for a video producer then who wanted some stills for the VHS jacket..it was in Disney World. Deion and others were there. The traveling Squad of the DCC was there too. We were shooting and producing a VHS aerobic workout video. Jones stopped by several times to see how it was going. We had rented a C&W bar to shoot it. Jerry was charming and I enjoyed the visit. Pay was top shelf as was the catered lunches. I think if everybody had that opportunity to met him..they would speak very differently. Unfortunately he has his TV and off camera persona..people get confused by it. I liked him.

:omg:

Jerry and Stephen would be awesome to get to know. They are both on my bucket list of people I would like to have an evening of drinks with, along with some candid conversation. Jerry is a fascinating person.

The closest that I have come to visiting with anyone directly or indirectly related to the Cowboys was Mike Fisher. He is knowledgeable about the Cowboys, but I felt like he had some blind spots with certain players because he liked them personally.

Yes and yes.
Not at the same time, but on more than one occasion.
Both are very gracious and friendly men in person, from my experience.
It seems authentic
To no surprise, Jerry is the larger personality, but Stephen is pretty open too.

I've never been a fan of Jerry being GM, but that's an entirely different topic.
You will be hard-pressed to meet a person who knows Jerry well who does like him on a personal level.
Many truly love him.

I agree. I think to get anything of value over such a meeting you would have be a millionaire too as you would need status before he would really say much..also 3 fingers in a glass would have to be part of it. You would have to drink him under the table. I no longer have that sort of stamina sorry to say.:banghead:

This exactly. Met many players over the years. Met Calvin Hill his rookie year at a self-service carwash across from the old headquarter out on Colt Rd. Met Craig Morton. He was the guest of honor at my senior HS sports award banquet. Got a letter in football and golf. He had hands the size of a ham. Huge. No wonder he played QB. Never forget meeting him. Everybody I have ever met with the Cowboys were nothing but class.Maybe the nicest was the director for the DCC. Pretty Gal who was a former cheerleader.

I'm not sure how many of you have had kids on sports teams for several years running--beginning in peewee.
But you tend to get to know the parents and, sometimes, grandparents on a fairly personal level.
Highland Park is a bit like a small, one high school town.
Through both Stephen and Charlotte's kids playing sports there their whole lives, parents have real insight into the family in a very natural way.

Lol...that's awesome.
Yikes on that trade though

Missed out on Shaun Alexander in 2000
Missed out on Reggie Wayne or Drew Brees in 2001
:omg:
Franchise altering

But you were right in that we needed WR help and he was a solid player

...sure would be an interesting situation in the least. First thing I'd say is "Is it just bad luck or bad decisions, Dallas has been in a SB drought? " ..

Kelli McGonigall-Finglass is someone I'd like to meet. I remember my favorite part of Dallas Cowboys Weekly when I was in college.

Yes and no.

Preseason 1993 in Chicago. I managed to get my hands on a credential through a friend.

I arrived in press box before anyone was around at all.

Jerry came into the room to use a phone to be on a radio show. I sat next to him for about 20 minutes while he discussed mostly the Emmitt holdout.

I had no problem whatsoever with the man at the time, and I was lucky to be in the room at all, and was supposedly part of the media, so I said nothing.

We nodded at each other at most, so I can't really say I MET him.

If I ran into him today it would likely be different.

I was able to go into the locker room after the game, which was cool.

I recall being next to Jimmy while he spoke about Brock Marion. I had to play it cool but I kinda couldn't believe what was happening.

I recall seeing Aikman, Garrett, James Washington and Thomas Everett....who said to Jerry.. "we will get this thing going next week."

It actually took about three weeks, but yes they did.
