Bossman has to earn that moniker and to date, though its very early, he has shown he cannot be relied on. Hoping he will prove himself in Oxnard and preseason.

I think so. But I am not including sports writers and bloggers in the category of experts. I am really referring to the people in the front offices of NFL teams who pick the players. I think by and large they are right and this is borne out by the number of Hall of Fame players and the rounds they were selected. The numbers clearly show that there are moreHoF players selected in the 1st round than in the 2nd and more in the 2nd than the 3rd, etc.

This could be a good teaching tool or Quinn and the Cowboys are crazy.

The experts rate him as a terrible pick and has a grade to barely make a practice squad.

7th round to PFA. From what I heard in early camp he was able to hold his own and had several splash plays.

I know time will tell obviously. To an average fan this makes no sense.

This would be really cool if we out smarted the cat. If not i'm starting to question all these "Long arm" players and all the need for "Tall " CB/S.

Depends where we're getting our observation notes from.

One side could say he held his own ...while another could say he gave up a few plays to such as Simi.
but the only common notes that were coming in say he has a knack for being where the ball is thrown and getting his hands on a number of thrown passes.

With profile and grading draft pick prospects, i tend to wonder if several sites and sections just piggy-back off what they have heard others say.
But when they get to go more up on the Lambs, Coopers (unless he's still rehabbing his chronic foot issues) Gallup, and a host of those he'll meet in preseason
we'll get a better view of what he is and can be.

But nether less, its still great to hear from something positive and promising from our rookies.

I think Merton Hanks was 6'3". He was the last Tall CB I remember. Hated the "Chicken neck" dance. I think his neck was a foot Tall.

ChubbyChiefBactrian-size_restricted.gif

Although Merton Hanks was a free safety in NFL,..not a CB.

As far as very tall CBs in NFL .... Try Brandon Browner of Seattle/Patriots - He was 6'"4. ..and undrafted at that.

he was sick with the flu. That has absolutely zero bearing on if he can be relied on. What in the world are you talking about?

1st rounders - great talent usually good character
2nd rounders - great talent either injury problems (Lee) or character problems (Gregory)
3rd rounders - good talent and more injuries or character
4th - usually flash player that’s not consistent.
5th-7th - prospects with upside based on sheer measurables. Production usually hard to assess either due to lack of opportunities at blue chip programs or inferior competition.

I think once you get to the 3rd round with most positions you get questionable talent. Or they don't have the prototype size or all around game.

Bossman needs to live up to his self given title. He has a long way to go. Right now he looks like "lowman on the totem pole" man

In what way is he low man? I see him as the favorite to win the other outside CB spot. Its his job to lose.

I said the same thing. These guys think OTA's matter. As if Wright is the new darling at the CB position. LOL

yeah lol..I'm not really counting him at all because he has already shown to be flighty. Not so sure he will be in the mix to start right away. Maybe down the line. I think to date, Nashon has proven to be more reliable...as they say, the best trait he has shown is availability. Thats a Parcelsism lol.

How is Joseph been flighty? How has Nashon proven to be more reliable?

What is the point of making up lies?

Stay with me here, it's not that much of a stretch. example:

On pass plays, the free safety is expected to assist the cornerback on his side and to close the distance to the receiver by the time the ball reaches him. If the offense puts a receiver in the slot, then the free safety may be called upon to cover that receiver.

Also I did mention Browner. I don't always read all the responses either so, it's all good.

MM was also impressed enough with Nolan to hire him as DC

Because Nolan runs a dynamic scheme but I think players now days are too stupid or offenses throw so much at them that they just need simple assignments and less thinking pre-snap.

Bend don’t break is the way unfortunately for the NFL.

Nashon needs to simply beat out Brown and or Lewis. Lewis will be the slot cb..so really he needs to beat out Brown. Let the competition begin.

A 6'3 very leggy slot CB ? ...this will be such a rarity to see.

This is actually not that rare.
Wright had tools but he also has weaknesses.
If you are grading his ability to get in a WR's hip pocket and travel with him across the field and such he will look very, very poor.

If you are grading him as a cover 1/3 guy that has a small defined area to cover and man cover only in short areas he has tools that really shine because he is so tall and he will go get the ball.

I was a pretty big fan of Wright's game and fit before we drafted him. I didn't rack and stack him with a bunch of other CB but his chance to succeed here is pretty high.

And one of the guy's he'd knock down the depth chart is a former 6th rounder who outshined lots of earlier selections.

Scouts seldom peg value correctly on system guys. See TJ Watt.

You're probably not wrong. But, dang, I sure hope you are.

Me too, bro.

If I could pick one of the two circus freaks to pan out it'd be Mukuamu though. We need a safety.

Cornerbacks are like that first slice in a loaf of bread.

Dang Risen. I thought that was the slice you reserved for kickers. :)

Mukuamu actually being a player would instantly transform this defense. Was Woodson really the last real stud we had back there?

I'm with you on scheme. The two 6'4" guys were so much of a push its development that is the bigger deal.

By the way , I don't mind to eat crow. I will find a way to season it.

100% me too, will devour it happily…

I love these threads where we compare a long shot rookie's physical metrics to (insert HOF player) and conclude he has that potential.:facepalm:

While it's good the news was encouraging about his MC, it's minicamp.

Hopefully we continue to read good news about Wright and other rookies once the pads come on.
