I’m cautiously optimistic about this secondary.

diggs is already better than Byron Jones
Kazee is light years better at FS than anyone we’ve had in decade
Wilson is the SS we’ve had since maybe Roy.
All we need is for joseph to not completely bust.

Hooker was a first round pick who was an absolute star in college. Jeff Heath is still looking for an “angle” back onto another team. Hah. See what I did there?
Hooker was constantly injured in college just like he's been in the pros.

See what I did there? Stated facts.

Several other serviceable guys with Lewis and Brown to start,

Wright has shown up lately. A strong youth movement and building something.

Hooker is only 25 and Kazee is only 28

I assume you value DBs by the number of interceptions they have and nothing else? I can't think of any other reason a person who watched both would say that

Facts? Hooker had surgery during the offseason before his rookie NFL season, however he did not miss a single game in college, I won't even mention "constantly injured".

"After redshirting his first year at Ohio State in 2014, Hooker played in all 13 games in 2015, recording 10 tackles playing mostly special teams. As a redshirt sophomore in 2016, he took over at free safety.[3][4] During the first game of the season, he recorded his first two career interceptions.[5][6] On November 29, 2016, Hooker was name First Team All-Big Ten.[7] After the season, Hooker decided to forgo the remaining two years of eligibility and enter the 2017 NFL Draft."

He played in all 26 games during his two year college career. I myself am not sold on him given the injury history (in the pros) but at least use facts when you say you are using facts (much like using context when using "stats").

Heath is what he is, and that is a free agent that no team is rushing to sign at this point. You cannot play from the tub, I get that (regarding Hooker), but trying to put Heath on par with Hooker for anything else is laughable (both in college at the pros).

Heath could be had for the same deal, but at least he's fully healthy and could actually contribute.

Now this I do agree with, but his contribution would be different that Hooker's would be. More special teams, less on the back end of the defense (unless injury needed).

I hope we bring Hooker in... the FS position has been a black hole for years. Even if Malik is just insurance behind Kazee— I am for the signing.

Right now— our third S would appear to be Darian Thompson. So— uh, yah— sign Hooker.

This is great news. He’s still incredibly young. Hopefully can turn his career around and help the defense.

Very telling they’re signing a safety within one day of practice.
Think they were waiting on Hooker to make a decision on coming here. I'm delighted if he signs. w appQ apparently wants lots of bodies in the secondary. Me like him coming here to be sure.

I'd pump the brakes on Diggs being better than Byron Jones....he is an outstanding cb that was missused as a safety

Diggs is good and will hopefully be great but he's not Byron yet

The only reason we have a chance of getting him is because of his injury history. Otherwise, he would not be available.

What Dallas is doing here is taking a cheap chance because of his upside. A healthy Hooker is easily superior to Heath. We know what Heath is and apparently do not want that. We know what Hooker can be and want that, but because of his injury history, we're not willing to pay much to find out if he's able to get back to that level that caused him to be a first-round choice.

Think of it like Marc Colombo. Before we acquired him, he was just an oft-injured tackle for the Bears who showed flashes of what he could be, but couldn't stay healthy enough to live up to his first-round selection. I think it was Parcells who said on signing former first-round picks that someone once thought enough to spend a first-rounder on them so why not give them a chance?

Most are going to fail, but occasionally, you might hit on a Colombo, who gave us three consecutive seasons as a high-level starter at right tackle.

Imo, Kazee hasn't proven it until the pads come on and all of the stakes are on the line in actual game situations.
Several thought Eric Berry coming off achilles injury and recovery, was gonna be alright when he was passing previous physicals in KC and the pads came on.
But once he showed a step or two behind plays in games it was clear that he wasn't the same previous player.
I'll wait for the games are here and in play to wipe out any lingering concerns
Yeah..hard to get excited over not having any film to see what is going on. We wait and try to be entertained..no?

I'm thinking this was the plan all along. The Cowboys and Hooker had a great meeting back in March (remember those cryptic Tweets?). I think he and the Cowboys came to a handshake agreement to come back at the start of camp and check on the achilles again. I know the Dolphins and Steelers also had interest in Hooker, but maybe he was just waiting to get to Dallas for camp.
