So Jerry "considers'' change but ultimately sees advantages in standing pat. That likely means the power remains where it is. Which likely means Troy remains where he is as well.

Check & Mate!

only if Troy blows smoke up Jerrys butt. Does anyone notice how Troy's opinions have changed lately?

Former star quarterbacks have a lousy record as GM's or Head Coaches. (Harbaugh was not a star).

From Norm Van Brocklin and Bart Starr to John Elway, owners have tried to inspire fans by bringing back their iconic hero in the hopes that success on the field somehow tanslates directly into a different area of expertise.

When you look at the majority of Super Bowl winning GM's, they spent 20 years in the NFL evaluating talent at every level starting with intern scout, then area scout to regional director.....to Director of Operations and then GM.

They earned each of their promotions by achieving documented success. They have expertise, experience and a vast knowledge in evaluating NFL and college talent.

Even if they were former players, they paid their dues in the scouting department

Jones doesn't fool me for a second and shouldn't fool Aikman. Troy would simply be an additional buffer subject to the specific whims of an owner who always wants the credit, accolades and recognition earned by those he employed.

Jerry has deluded himself into believing that performance results are some type of intellectual property. In other words, Troy's achievements are owned by Jerry because he hired him.

In conclusion, I love Troy but he is not qualified to be a GM. In addition, if he were to experience success then Jerry would immediately push Troy aside, grab the steering wheel and create the next Cowboy wreck.

For Troy to find any success, he would have to insist that Jerry not be involved in any football related decisions including communicating with the media. Jerry would be getting the same publicity and exposure given to normal owners.

We all realize that is about as likely as Dinucci becoming the next Roger Staubach.
Elway is tricky. He did get them to two SB's, winning one. However he does seem to struggle with tradional team building. If he gets Rodgers next offseason, he will probably build that team similar to how he put talent around Manning. It will probably be successful short term

Last time Aikman had a hand as GM, he hand-picked some TE. Was the name David LaFlower? Worked out real well.

Aikman was never great as a QB. The team was great. Aikman stinks as an announcer. Listen to Aikman and listen to Romo. See the difference. One knows football, one doesn’t. Aikman is just a name some fans automatically gravitate to.
I don't know if Aikman would be a good GM or not, but to say he doesn't know football is an idiotic statement.

You Dak fans will piss on any QB not named Dak. Troy was a warrior. Screw Barry.
I don't blame him for being pissed, just don't like that he did it publicly....Troy was a warrior, I still think Woodson would be more level headed and a better GM

If that’s true then why has Troy openly lobbied for it?

Maybe...

*Maybe* Troy would be interested in a GM job. Sure wouldn't be in Dallas. He's made his views clear on the dysfunction that is Jerry...in part drove him to retire as player.

"I would consider it and I do consider it," Jones revealed. "I would not be averse to that. ... I'd put Troy at the head of the list''

Just talk or is it possible?

I hope this is true! I'd be happy with this. Or, I'm going to get blasted for this, Jason Garrett may not be a bad GM. He's a horrible horrible HORRIBLE HC. But he did bring in good talent. I could see Jason Garrett as the GM and McCarthy as the HC. this could work imo. Or! Maybe we get Jimmy? Jerry was reflecting an awful lot on that relationship with Jimmy as coach. Maybe he brings in Jimmy as GM to try to make that magic happen again?

Jerry knows it's safe to say because Troy would never want that job....and Jerry knows it. Great pointless statement to spin the marketing wheel for a few days.

You know? He may not get Troy, but could you see a possibility where Jimmy becomes GM? If they're softening their tones with each other, which it sounds like, maybe Jimmy becomes GM? Sounded to me like Jerry was wanting to rebuild bridges, and Jimmy as a GM could be quite fun.

??? Sorry man, but you are just ranting at this point. Whatever Troy Aikman was he was not a selfish player. Did a three time Super Bowl winning quarterback get paid? I hope so. But I don’t think that anyone on the team at the time thought that he put himself above the interest of the team. In fact in his last years he took quite a beating as the franchise devolved

He kept moving the bar.:laugh:

Jimmy wants to stay a legend - and retired. No way he's coming back to that headache, then run the risk of tarnishing his legacy.

Nah. He likes fishing too much.
