Watching on the NFL Network this morning, on the Cowboys report, it was said after Dak left practice with the sore arm (or lat, I've heard both) Rush "struggled".

He's had enough chances, wouldn't rely on him to do much. DeNucci was awful when he played last year, and was an FCS guy anyway.

I'd go with Foles, just due to his experience. And not every quarterback is destined to be a starter, Plunkett "won" 2 SBs but in both of those he was originally the backup for the Raiders. Maybe Foles could be the same, he's already got one ring...
Remember Jeff Hostetler? Backup QB in early 90s for the giants. Winning QB in SB 25.

And I agree with you about Cooper Rush. He’s such a spare.
I’d be ok with Stidham too. If he’s
healthy of course .
Unfortunately he’s not. Possible shoulder surgery soon.

I don’t know about you, but I’m not thrilled with the idea of Cooper Rush, Garrett Gilbert or The Nooch being our backup QB next year.

Here are some backups that may end being available come late August when roster cuts start happening. Most of these guys would be a step up and wouldn’t break the bank:
  • Nick Foles- Bears- currently the 3rd stringer behind Andy Dalton and Justin Fields. The bears want too much in a trade but if we are patient, he may get cut anyway. He’s 32 and obviously has a ton of successful experience.
  • CJ Beathard- Jags- 28 yr old former 3rd round pick of the niners is now 3rd string in Jax. He’s started a few NFL games and has a better arm than any of our current backups.
  • Jeff Driskel- Texans- also 28 and former 3rd rounder drafted by Niners. He has started 6 games in the NFL, has thrown 13 TDs to 8 picks and is fairly mobile.
  • Shane Buechelle- 3rd stringer in KC. He’s probably going to make their practice squad but there’s a possibility he’s cut in late August.
IMO, all these guys would be better than our current situation. If we are patient until late Aug or early Sept, one of these guys or some other may fall to us.

I left out the pats Jarrett Stidham because he’s hurt and pitts’ Dwayne Haskins because he’s crazy. No thanks to either of those guys.
Sign me up, we should always be looking to upgrade any position on the team.

That list is awful. Having players familiar with the system makes more sense.

Bortles would be an upgrade. Is he still with the packers?
Bortles was a competent QB, just wasn't the game changer JAX needed. He actually won that championship game, but no way the NFL was going to allow a Philly/JAX super bowl.

Apparently he was released by the Packers Tuesday according to Wikipedia.

He signed for only 1 million last year with Green Bay. He would definitely be a bargain if he has anything left.

I'm in on bringing in vet competition with Gilbert. .
I'm beginning to be more towards sending da Nooch to practice squad by summer's end.

Not panicking for the sake of a bum shoulder by Dak, but there's gonna come a time when Dak gets a concussion or a bruised thigh that he needs a couple of games to recover.
Do we have a bus driving managing QB that can play decent enough to give us a chance to win ?

i would love to have Foles behind Dak, but Foles contract and what it would take to trade for him could prove problematic - i don't think it's that comfortably cheap for the Cowboys.
and it would have to be late round comp at best.

- DIdn't Driskel recently turned down the Cowboys offer to sign on as a backup ?

- i would want more options than journeyman Blake Brotles but may not have many more options out there.

- Frankly the Beathards, Buechelles type are no different of competition than what we already have in Gilbert.

Just wanna say I appreciate posts like this that are not just complaining about the team's deficiencies but offering unridiculous solutions. :flagwave:

Cooper Rush is definitely familiar with the system.
And I'm not suggesting what we have is any better. Just weighing the deals. I do like Gilbert enough to see what he can do in more than one game, lol. But it could backfire. He reminds me of a player that hasn't been in the league verses being a vet.

Yea , not sure how Erod would rate Gilbert as high as Foles?
