He had 5 tackles for loss. He sucks at reading plays and has terrible instincts often taking poor angles. Again, he didn't rank in the top 50 at his position. The tackles stat is meaningless and has more to do with health in his case.
The tackle sled does not enhance instincts. It should, theoretically, help with your tackling form and follow through.

My simple point was that his inability to hit the sled with consistency has nothing to do with his ability to tackle.

What's even more disappointing is he hasn't developed his technique or polished his mental part of the game more to help offset some of his ability that he lost. I would think a player would want to polish their game to be more cerebral after a devastating injury robbed you of your athletic ability.

exactly. Not every LB runs a 4.3 and is super athletic. They are smart and anticipate things and are in the correct spot. Jaylon on the other hand is not as athletic as he once was but seems to wana to rely on his athleticism a little too much. He’s not that player anymore. It should be about smarts and knowing where to be on the field, what gap to hit. And the dude can’t even do that… he’s lost most of the time and chasing players 15 yards down the field

With that contract Im playing him on special teams, making him stay late to clean the locker room even.
That's a good point, he's making too much money to just be useless. He can play special teams and be the waterboy and the kickoff tee retriever.

Jaylon Smith may have lost to the sled 3 times recently, but he is winning in the eyes of Quinn according to the notebook on the Dallas Cowboys website this morning.

Honestly, to me it looks like he's overestimating his own strength, thinking he doesn't need to put all he's got behind it, and trying to get past it faster. He does better on his second attempt, so clearly he has the strength. Either he's afraid or overconfident, IMO.

If he wasn’t the best for the job, what’s the chances he gets benched? The last 25 years tells me zero chance. That will be the first sign anything is different around here. This and the zeke signing have me convinced Stephen is no jerry...LOL

good to see the other guys with pop

Thank god the CB’s were drafted ahead of us. Blessing in disguise.

It wasn't really the signing per se. I hated the hold out, didn't like the big payout, and certainly didn't like the physical shape of his return.

I would probably have let him sit...maybe like we did Emmitt? For a few games? This is not as easy a decision as fans think. This is part of your prize dynamic duo....a very high 1st round selection. Led the league several times. And your feel poised to make a solid run. J and S had a lot invested in him.

Still...let him sit a bit.

You can separate the player from the person.
