What in the world will they do with Jaylon Smith?

I don't see the point in taking on more dead money by cutting him now. It's the coaches job to identify and put the best players on the field. Let him do his job or get him out of here too.

Most of the whiners on here about Jaylon or any other player do not know what their assignments are. But yet feel they must be over critical. A player can’t make every play. Take LVE’s advise he gave to Micah. It is not always your play to make.

I am not sure if he will regain his play from a few years ago or not.
But I will wait until the regular defense is out there with a few games played. Before I even begin to judge him or anyone else.

I refuse to follow someone that whines just to jump on the wagon to be accepted. :lmao:

he lost to the sled. 3 times. On camera.

Put him on ST and be dedicated wedge fodder.
Then make him clean the stands after the game.

He will play this season and likely will be cut next year to save some cap money. His position on the team has been filled just that no one has told him yet. Obviously will be used by DQ in his scheme, but sparingly. I don't see any trade likely since a team will just wait for the Cowboys to cut him. His injury his senior year really ruined his career, he was lucky Jerry gave him some money to take care of his family.

Use him as a pass rusher, he's better north than east or west. Situational player and he is the reason, along with Vander Esch's health concerns, they picked Parsons and Cox.

Cox was that situational player at LSU but he excelled in certain situations but I do not see him unseating Smith unless that is later in the season.

"dead money" - the money is already dead it seems, if he is not one of your top 4 LBs and getting much playing time. So, why not give that 5th spot to someone else, develop someone that has upside and plays ST.

Agree
No need to "carp" him repeatedly....
Life dealt him a bad hand...he did a hell of a job to work back to this point, not give up
The 1st year LVE and him were paired up were special....
Maybe too much cheese (parcels) thrown at both of them that year....

There are other things going on that deserve much more attention....inside and outside of football

I am a Jaylon fan. The fact that he is playing in the NFL is a testament of his determination and heart. That being said after watching the preseason games so far, he is clearly are 5th best linebacker. Playing him with Parsons has exposed his weaknesses even more. He can’t read and react. To be honest honest he looks like a shell of his 2018 self.

It would cost the team 10m in cap space that they don't currently have to cut him.

I only see three possibilities left for restructure....Lawrence, Cooper and Elliott.

Doing so would likely keep one of those here longer than the team wants to, just to get rid of Smith.

As much as the guy disgusts me, I'd rather keep him here until we can better absorb the dead money.

I'm confident he will play his way out of the lineup sooner than later.

Smith is garbage. No one will pay him to play other than dumb Jerry.

I disagree teams have cut or traded players with higher cap hits. where there’s a will there is a way.

Not a prayer.

The rest of the league sees what we all do.

And they’re thankful it wasn’t them that overdrafted and then overpaid him.

He will play a minimal amount in special circumstances this year before they technically (though never publicly) admit their mistake and release him after the season.

They set themselves up to take their lumps this year and will cut him after the season.

Well hindsight is 20/20, didnt know in march that we would be drafting Parsons and Cox.

Yeah but they knew that paying Smith wasn’t the answer.

This ‘brain trust’ has a hard time admitting mistakes, even when the rest of the world can plainly see them.

I've always thought the old man was crazy for giving Jaylon that contract. After this season it will be time to dump it. Maybe he can rejoin his brother on a team. I think Rod is with the Panthers now.
